I need to write a thank you card to my husbands brother and sister-in-law. They opened their home to us when my husband ran in a marathon. We were there for 4 days. They fed us meals and were very kind hosts. I am just terrible at wording cards.

I just got married on Halloween. It was a very small and informal reception and there was no ceremony but it was a blast ! I'm now needing to write thank you cards but I'm not sure on how to word them. We didn't get gifts in the traditional sense but we did have a lot of family help putting together the party and we received a lot of Home Depot gift cards for our new home. I need something simple because I'm hand writing them all. Any ideas ?

I'm trying to write thank you cards, but I don't know what I should say. Is "thank you for your gift" adequate? Should I say more?
Personalize each one is the only way to go. We do this because the person who bought us a gift was kind enough to put some thought into it, so we must be equally kind enough to thank them for that generosity. It can be very short though, like so:
"Dear Aunt Millie and Uncle Harold,
Thank you so much for attending my wedding/bat mitzvah/birthday/shower, it was a delight to have you over! I absolutely cherish the silver candlesticks, and Rufus and I cannot wait to use them.

We got 4 baskets at our wedding shower with several small things in them. I'm not sure of the best way to thank them for all of it.
"Thank you for the gift basket that you gave at my shower". You could mention a few of the items in the basket and say you know they will be put to good use.
My husbands Aunt and Uncle came to our wedding and I don't think they gave us a gift and there is no card. We have to sets of guests like this they both traveled far and I think this is more than enough of a gift but, I don't want to offend anyone if there was a gift that may have disapeared or if they didn't give a gift. I would like to thank them as I know they made the time for us but, don't know how to word it.Please answer fast as I'm not sure what the correct amount of time is to get out thankyou's and I have handmade each one to make it special and don't want to fall into the rude category.

The correct amount of time for sending out thank you's .... You need to have them in the mail post marked by no later than 3 months after arriving home from your honeymoon...
My husband and I had a similar problem with our wedding gifts... His Aunt and Uncle attended the wedding and in the shuffle of stuff thier card with enclosed $500.00 check ended up wedged under my mothers 750lbs. buffet (a large ornate wooden cabinet) We sent out all the thank yous and thanked them for attending etc. about 2 months later his aunt called to ask why we hadn't deposited the check.. I had to tel her I never saw a check or card we were just glad they were able to attend... She promptly sent another card and check saying "It prolly got lost in the shuffle, it will turn up" That was 10 years ago.. Last year my mother got new carpeting (moving the buffet for the first time in nearly 18 years) and found the original card and check (unopened)... We all had a laugh about it including my husbands aunt and uncle... His aunt kept saying "See I told you it would turn up eventually" LOL

I turned 51 years old Thursday. Yeah. I know. Big Whoop. I didn’t get a whole lot of work done that day. The reasons were various and sundry. I just couldn’t seem to get myself going. After a 30 year career in Corporate Video Production and Audio/Visual Services, I changed careers a year ago. I got my license and entered the field of Health and Life Insurance. Great timing, huh? I never knew I was evil until Obama told me so. By the way, I also am a member of three Chambers of Commerce in Northwest Mississippi, so I guess I’m doubly evil. But,on with the story. After banging my head against the wall for almost a year, I really didn’t feel like doing it on my birthday. Well, it just so happened that my step-son and daughter-in-law both had to work that day and did not have a baby sitter for my grandson, Robert, who’s 2 years old. So, I volunteered. I kept him from a little after 8 a.m. to a little after 3 p.m. He wore Grandpa out. But, it was a illuminating time. For a little while, I was able to see life through the eyes of a 2 year old.
