It is unnecessary to send them a thank you card...
Learn proper thank-you note business etiquette rules in this free video on corporate protocol, customs, and manners.
if we get gifts before the wedding from people that are attending the wedding, how do you do thank you notes? do i send them 2 thank you notes, before and after? or is a call beforehand to thank them and let them know we received the gift and a thank you card afterward appropriate?
You don't need 2 thank you notes. It depends on how far before the wedding they sent the gifts but you should be able to wait until after the wedding so you can thank them for being there and thank them for the gift.
Not sure of the proper ettiquette?
as most others say, no you dont have to
you are not expected to
its pretty much a given that you dont do anything after receiving a sympathy card
its to tell you they are thinking of you at this time and giving you condolences and sympathy from them
they are fully aware that you need somt time to sort out your feelings and deal with your grief right now
and wont expect to hear from you in regards to this
you dont need to worry about this
please take your time to deal with and only concern yourself with yourself and your family at this time
hope you do ok.
I just had my baby shower this month, and i am due in the beginning of next month (sept 11)
i was thinking that maybe i could hold off on the thankyou cards until the baby finally comes, and then send the birth announcement and thankyou note at the same time.
is that alright? or is that bad ettiquette, making people wait for their thank you cards?
digi: lol i worry about a lot of things. my mind goes all over the place, theres just so many things to do and think about!
I had my first baby shower june 27th I just got out my thank you cards this month, I was high risk with diabetes and High blood pressure and I was in and out of the hospital after my baby shower they wasn't sure if they wanted to induce me until finally the 2nd week of july I was due aug 15th & had a c-section july 18th. so I think its ok, I mean it doesn't get no worst then how long i waited lol...
What is the proper ettiquette? My child was in the hospital for a week and in ICU for several days. My husband missed work and of course we ate fast food every day. My husband traveled back and forth from the hospital to our home a few hours away. My sister has some inlaws that we know casually. They sent a nice card with money in it. They sent $100.00. How do I thank them? My sister said to mention the dollar amount, but is that tacky? How do you thank someone for a money gift, at a time of need? It is not a birthday or wedding gift. Is it tacky to give the amount or should it just say thanks for the generous gift?
I would not mention the dollar amount. Your instincts are right about that being tacky. I would say something along the lines of "thank you for your generous gift.....yada yada yada" you get the picture. If you mention the dollar amount you might as well say, "Hey, thanks for the benjamin."
The old debate: 'Merry Christmas' or 'Happy holidays'?
In a country that has freedom of speech, say whatever you like!
Personally, I see it as quite simple. I want to be thoughtful; I do not want to wish “Happy Kwanzaa” or “Merry Christmas” to someone who does not celebrate those holidays. If I know what holiday someone celebrates, I name the holiday in my greeting and say “Merry Christmas,” “Happy Hanukkah,” “Happy La Posadas,” etc. But, if I do not know what holiday someone celebrates, I can wish him or her “Season’s greetings” or “Happy holidays,” or simply say “Have a nice day.”
Saying “Happy holidays” is nothing new. It was made popular in 1942 when Bing Crosby sang “Happy Holiday,” written by Irving Berlin. Many use the phrase to cover the plethora of holidays from Thanksgiving to Twelfth Night. Season’s greetings is another popular expression seen on greeting cards since they began, as evidenced by my collection of old cards from the 1800s.
Chick with PhizzleDizzle: Thanking your committee etiquette
What ought I do? I have bought some thank you cards (nice one, not ones in a pack), and especially nice ones for my chairs. I also purchased bound copies of my thesis for the chairs, though not the rest of the committee. I have received mixed signals about this. Some said I definitely should get some for all, others said that tradition is being phased out. In a survey of my recently graduated peers it was nearly 50/50 in my department.
