I have a template from First Data http://www.firstdatagiftcards.com/custom Cards.asp but I have no idea how to proceed. I own a bakery and will be offering gift cards. I want a very elegant design with the name of my bakery. I have no idea what the template means by CYMK format. Does anyone out there know someone who can help me design my card? Thanks!

Have you already designed your cards? Or did you use something they had online? CMYK is a quick Photoshop fix. Image>Mode>CMYK...super easy. If you know someone that photoshops, they should be able to do it for you.

Ry, Thanks for the quick reply. what is you're not charging per hour, but per design. Then how much would you charge?

If it is just desiging and nothing creative, the regular rate is $20. But if they ask to design a logo for them, it can go up to $400-600 depending.

The going rate for any good designer is $125 / hour.

I might make it sparkly and glittery, with a picture of me and that person together, and make a little poem if possible. I would would insert the poem in a pop-up gift box that is withing the card. And it would play nice music and throw confetti everywhere.

I need to help a mature friend to design a logo and business card for her company. But I don't have much idea about the logo. (The company is an shopping site)

For the business card font or the logo, can I use the font that already exist/ download from site? Especially the logo, if I use the font that already exist, will there be a copyright thing problem?

The fonts that are publicly available are generally fine. Typically, typographers design a font and then people pay to be able to use them. Many businesses actually use the same font for their image. The only problem you'll have with the copyright thing will be if you outright steal it or purposely make it look like you're in business with a company you're not. Many of the fonts that are already on your computer are fine for logo creation. Some designers only use a handful of fonts in their entire lifetime (you can watch the film Helvetica for more on that). You don't have to go overboard with the font: look at businesses like Target.

First, think about what image you want to present. Your font will say as much about the business as the name. If you need help with this, you can go to somewhere like http://www.myfonts.com and type in what kind of font you are looking for (even terms like "happy" work sometimes). It will even let you type in your own text so you can see what it will look like in each font.

Be careful what you download for free from websites. There may be copyright issues in using them for business purposes. Many of the fonts I have downloaded from dafont.com stipulate personal use only. Just be sure to read the fine print.
