I need help writing formal thank-you cards to my Japanese professors.?

I want to write formal thank-you cards to them in Japanese. They wrote recommendation letters for me for a study abroad program. One is female and one is male, if that makes a difference. Arigatou!

Personally I believe that formality is over rated. Then again being from the United States maybe my Perception is not proper for Japanese Culture. In my opinion the best way is just a short letter. After all a letter can be more formal, and more personal then a pre made card at the same time.

I think it would be best to keep the thank you short and simple. Something along the lines of " Thank you for giving me this amazing chance, I will make the best of it. Your consideration will not go to waste!" then sign it with your name. Add to it a P.S. with some means of allowing them to contact you, preferably via email. "P.S. If you wish to see what your consideration has given me the chance to do, send me an email. I would be happy to keep you updated on my progress. email@yahoo.com Thanks again! "

This would be both formal, without being stuck up. And it would also leave the door open for your professor to not only offer a friendship, but also may give you the chance to brag, and give them reason to brag.

Also I would like to say congradulations as well. A friend of mine from Japan, Sai Lu, is coming to the United States to study as well. I wish you plenty of luck!

Do I need a Japanese memory card to play Japanese games on a North American PS2?

The region block isn't a problem, since I have swapmagic, but do I need to buy an Asian memory card as opposed to my current North American one in order to play Japanese imports? Thanks.

No. Even though the games are not interchangeable the memory cards are. I bought a double pack at Wal-Mart and put one in my U.S. PS2, one in my Japanese PS2. I've been using both for about 3 years now without any problems what-so-ever. I will say though that I'm not sure what a Japanese PS2 would do with a memory card that had US game information saved on it, but again if you use seperate cards there's no problem.

Writing a "thank you" letter in Japanese to host families?

I want to write a card to my Japanese host families for my trip starting Wednesday, but my Japanese grammar is limited. I know that arigatou gozaimasu is thank you, but I don't know how to say thank you FOR something. I'd like to say thank you for allowing me to stay with you, or something along those lines. Can anyone help me?

Note: I am not interested in responses direct from online translators as they are often unreliable. I am looking for someone with extensive knowledge of the language please =)

I think the best greeting is not 'thank you for something' but ' thank you in advance in the case.

"gokoui ni yori home stay wo onegai surukoto ni narimashita. douzo yoroshiku onegai itashimasu"

into Japanese: ご厚意により、ホームステイをお願いすることになりました。どうぞ宜しくお願い致します。

means "I am going to stay with your family throuth your good kind, thank you in advance.
