Girls' hockey wins its fair share of ice

Investigation which found that the eight arenas don't give girls' and women's hockey teams their fair share of ice time, especially in prime evening and weekend hours.

As the teenage members of the Leaside Wildcats Midget BB team arrived for a game at the East York Memorial Arena Friday night, they happily signed a giant thank you card for Mayor David Miller.

"I think that's what it should have been all along," said Marlee Shinoff, 16. "We shouldn't have to play at 10 p.m."

Baker had written a letter to Miller and threatened to lay a human rights complaint if the girls didn't get a better break on city-owned rinks.

"I've never witnessed anything quite like that – what did it take, about six hours of debate?" he said.

Children cannot write by themselves, they told the Thai teacher what they would like to write, and then they copied from a slice of paper. We also looked up "I love you" in several languages so children could write a message in their own language if their father is not Thai.)
