Baby Thank You Card

A family that is friends with me and my husband got us 2 big baskets and 1 toy box filled with great baby shower gifts, It is a LOT of stuff!
I just want to know how to send out a thank you card for that, I know you are suppose to kind of include a note about everthing you got from a person in the card so that it feels more personal, but I don't think I can thank them for every individual thing and have it fit in one card...what should I do?

Just give a general thank you for all the gifts and how you are so appreciative that they tried to cover all your needs. Mention the toy box and how you plan to use it. Mention the baskets if you can use those as well (great laundry hampers, or for storing diaper supplies in other rooms). Just pick one or two of the things and mention those specifically. If you write a big long list, it sounds insincere- which I know is the last thing you want to be.

I had my baby shower thrown for me last Saturday, April 4th. I know I need to send out thank you cards soon, but is it wrong to wait until the baby is born (around May 21st) then send the thank you cards with a family picture in it? So basically, by the time we get family pictures done and get the thank you cards out around the first week of June, it'll be 2 months after the shower. Is that too late?

I think it is better to send out the thank you cards now - simple, personal ones with a message for each person.

After you have a baby, you can send out a birth announcement with a picture. A lot can happen after you have the baby and sending out the thank you cards are not a priority. No one expects long personal messages on birth announcements as you just had a baby - so it is much simpler to get them made, stuff the envelops and get them in the mail.

I need help writing Thank you cards for my baby shower. Should I say thank you for what I specifically got from them or just a general thank you? Like some of the gifts was several things like clothes, bibs, spoons, bottles ect. all from the same person. Should I list everything that they gave me in the card? Need some suggestions. Thanks so much!

I would say "thank you for all of the adorable baby gifts! I can't wait to try the sleeper on the new baby", or something like that. Single one thing out that you can't wait to use so they are aware you actually remember what they gave you. Good luck with your baby!

I just had my shower last week and I'm writing thank you notes. I had all these cute ideas and poems for blankets and clothing and things liike that. I did receive the very expensive breast pump that I wanted and I need an idea of how to say thank you without sounding corny.

Just keep it simple:

"Dear Aunt So&So,
I was very happy to see you at the baby shower and extremely grateful for the _____________! It is exactly what I was hoping for and it means a lot to me that you took the time and effort to find something I really needed."

They will understand that you are stressed & busy, and the fact that you took the time to send a thank you card is usually more than enough!
For the people who gave you baby clothes, blankets, etc, send them pictures after the baby is born of baby wearing/using those items (wouldn't really be appropriate for the pump though!)

Two months ago I sent a friend a baby gift as I could not attend the shower. I hardly ever talk to this friend but I wonder if she has received it. Is it rude to ask her if she got it or not? A thank you card would have signaled she did get it but nothing came in the mail. What should I do?

Etiquette for the receiver of the gift would dictate that thank-you's be sent within 1-2 weeks of the event. After that you can safely assume that a thank you card is not coming.

I was going to knee-jerk reply that you shouldn't ever expect a thank-you, however it looks to me like you've got the right mindset. You're not offended that you didn't get a thank you, you're just interested to know if they received your gift and how they like it.

Because of this, it's entirely appropriate of you to call, e-mail, or write and inquire if they received it and how they liked it-- again apologizing that you couldn't make the event in person.
