Baby Shower Gift Thank You Card

Two months ago I sent a friend a baby gift as I could not attend the shower. I hardly ever talk to this friend but I wonder if she has received it. Is it rude to ask her if she got it or not? A thank you card would have signaled she did get it but nothing came in the mail. What should I do?

Etiquette for the receiver of the gift would dictate that thank-you's be sent within 1-2 weeks of the event. After that you can safely assume that a thank you card is not coming.

I was going to knee-jerk reply that you shouldn't ever expect a thank-you, however it looks to me like you've got the right mindset. You're not offended that you didn't get a thank you, you're just interested to know if they received your gift and how they like it.

Because of this, it's entirely appropriate of you to call, e-mail, or write and inquire if they received it and how they liked it-- again apologizing that you couldn't make the event in person.

A family that is friends with me and my husband got us 2 big baskets and 1 toy box filled with great baby shower gifts, It is a LOT of stuff!
I just want to know how to send out a thank you card for that, I know you are suppose to kind of include a note about everthing you got from a person in the card so that it feels more personal, but I don't think I can thank them for every individual thing and have it fit in one card...what should I do?

Just give a general thank you for all the gifts and how you are so appreciative that they tried to cover all your needs. Mention the toy box and how you plan to use it. Mention the baskets if you can use those as well (great laundry hampers, or for storing diaper supplies in other rooms). Just pick one or two of the things and mention those specifically. If you write a big long list, it sounds insincere- which I know is the last thing you want to be.

Also, is it tacky to open a gift you plan to give? I purchased a baby picture frame to go with the gift card, but I wanted to put the gift card inside the spot where the picture would go just to be unique, rather than give it in an envelope. The way the package is for the picture frame, I would have to remove the original taping and re-tape it after placing the card in it. Do you think it's tacky to open the package and re-tape it back? Or should I just put the gift card in an envelope and leave the picture frame package in its original, intact condition? Please give me your honest opinion! Thanks in advance!

For my shower I received gift cards anywhere from $10 - $100 depending on my relationship with the person and their finances. I would be greatful for any gift someone gave me regardless of the amount. So I guess you have to consider the recievers attitude as well! I think $50 is a very generous gift from a friend. I think it's cute to put the card inside the frame but I would worry she might not notice it and it would get lost. I would put it in the card with the frame.

It's not tacky, it's cute. I love the frame, and 50 bucks is a great amount. I think you're good.
