Any ideas for making your own Christmas cards?

How can I make my own Christmas cards that look good and professional? I would like to send a Christmas card to a friend in Italy, and it is not easy to find Italian language cards here. What are some good ideas to help me make my own? I know I should use card stock paper. I do have the program "Greetings Workshop" on my computer, but the cards never really come out looking professional.

Any ideas?

Well it can be really hard to get them to look right when they were made on the computer. Some tips for making cards in general (by hand or on the computer). Make sure the colours look good together. You don't want, say, black and brown. Be careful when using bright or dark colours with pastels, they don't always look good together. When in doubt, get a second opinion. Don't try to "overload" the card. Meaning don't put too much stuff on it. If you look at the cards at a store you'll see one or two things on them. Not Santa, four snowmen, two reindeer, and the sleigh. Which brings us to, look at professional cards to get a better idea of what you want. Study colour, the style of the drawing (cartooney, realistic?), the font of the words, everything. But don't try to copy one of the cards, just get an idea of what you like and what you don't. And the last, most important tip: HAVE FUN! If you hated making something, it shows.

Personally, I think one made by hand would be nicer. All you will need can be bought at a craft store: blank card and envelope, a calligraphy pen a book on calligraphy if you don't know how (you may prefer to pick one up from the library), stamps and ink, or some artist talent and pens, pencils, and whatever you use for colours. Take everything home and on a piece of scrap paper test some designs. When you find one you like, put it on the card. Practice your calligraphy until you can do it just the way you like, and write your message.

But, if you're doing it on the computer: Yes, use cardstock and make sure you have enough ink in the printer. You might try looking for clipart on a sight like photobucket.

This is kind of long, but I hope it helped! Merry Christmas!

This is not exactly what you wanted, but it may be a step toward learning how to do what you're trying to do. Hopefully, the little button inserts pictured on this page will have some sort of company return address. That may or may not get you any closer to learning what you want, as it probably is a trade secret or at least is not shared with those (like me) who couldn't take it apart and figure it out for themselves.

Even better(?): they might have the tune you want available in their catalog. . . .

I don't know for sure, but I think it would require some knowledge of how to record sound onto digitized computer chips.

How do I inexpensively print my own 3.5 by 5 (or similar sized) card deck?

PLEASE DON'T RESPOND UNLESS YOU READ THE *WHOLE QUESTION.* THANK YOU.
(Sorry, I've posted so many questions on yahoo answers and people respond with things you've already stated because they don't read the whole thing.)

Ok here's the scoop. I want to make my own oracle card deck. I've already done all the designs in photoshop, I'm thinking 3.5 by 5 would be ideal but I can work with the size if say only 4 x 6 is available or such but no bigger than that. I've got about 60 cards, but I may add some or take some out. Here's the problem, there's no place that prints double sided cards with your own designs on them, and certainly not with each card having it's own individual design. So I thought, ok, I can get creative with this. Maybe I can find a place that prints photo cards (you know, the kind you send to family on christmas) or small flyers, and then use that printing service. The only problem is, most of them have a 10 print minimum - for the SAME design. I don't need ten of one design, I need 60 cards each with their own unique design. I can't find any services that will do this. I thought, maybe I could just get them printed at kinko's and cut them out myself and have them laminated - but lamination costs are ridiculous.

So here's the question. Does anyone know of any online printing services that will print ONE card with one unique design instead of a minimum order of ten, that preferably costs less than a buck apiece? Or a place to get things laminated CHEAPLY?? Or any other ideas for how to go about making these cards??

Thank you!!!

Boy are you in luck. Over on Aeclectic Tarot there was someone posting about a new business that focuses on making game cards for board games, who ALSO has the capability of doing tarot decks and oracle decks at a fraction of the cost of most printers AND the cards are on proper type of paper for it too--there is no minimum order required and the only hinderance they have at this point is that their cards only come in one size.

A standard tarot deck (even one deck) would cost you $6.60 With fewer cards it'd be even cheaper.

Here's their website.
http://www.thegamecrafter.com/home
Go to the gamecrafter site, hit 'publish' and then 'cost estimator' and see what your deck comes up for. These will be cards that feel like the standard playing cards/tarot cards. The site is extremely interesting and I've bookmarked it for when I get my tarot deck finished. I'd considered going with Carta Mundi (they have a Tennessee office) but their minimum order run is 2,000 decks. This place sounds better. They just started in July of 2009 so are pretty new. I emailed them with some questions and they got right back to me very quickly.

If you want to see the discussion over on Aeclectic about it, here's the url -- http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php ?t=127871

With the current economy in the USA is this the most awesome Christmas present to give this year?

I'm going to make some really nice Christmas Cards on my computer and print them on really nice paper with my printer and then go outside and find a whole bunch of rocks and paint cute little faces on them and I am going to box them up real nice and put a card on each saying:

It Cost a FORTUNE but nothing is too good for my (brother, sister, aunt, mother, father, etc) so I'm enclosing a card with your VERY OWN ROCK GROUP! Merry Christmas!

It will take all I've got to buy the card stock and the boxes and the paint and brushes and it's the sentiment that counts the most anyway ... RIGHT? WELL?

Plus, any of you can STEAL my idea but you need to send me $1. Just email me for my website where I have the PayPal Donation logos. Promise?

Hey ... in THIS Economy we are ALL going to learn how to be creative if we are to survive so I'm just chipping in ONE great idea for the holidays. And people will like it because they will think of you whenever they see it and all the little rock faces will be smiling and full of good cheer.

Peace, Love, and Light To All!

Happy Holidays!
If you thought this is a great idea, forget the stars, but send me a nice "note" through http://AskTheDragon.ORG ... any Christmas note will do ... just help spread some Christmas Cheer.

Merry Christmas to all ... let's break out the egg nog!
Sleeping Gypsy: I did NOT give you downward thumbs. I just gave u a thumbs up to make up for whoever did that to you. Perhaps they were teetotalers who don't drink and object to Brandy. I like your attitude.

Soror ... your idea is great too. You can get greeting card stationery at Staples with the rough edges and all. Plus it's card stock and has a built in crease. You can make a stock face and then custom do each interior for individuals. Most Print Programs have a section for greeting cards.
I walked in the desert today and found a bunch of rocks with preformed faces. The desert was speaking to me. It's awesome how nature listens and just makes this stuff without much urging.
You can't go wrong giving something of yourself! My brother baked chocolate chip & nut cookies one Christmas and gave everyone a tin-full. They should have cookie recipes at the 99c Store. Maybe an extra pat of butter & some vanilla extract, a swig of cinnamon or? Make it GREAT!
DOC: Sounds awesome! If I ask you all if you know of any good gold/silver custom jewelry websites YOU could give me one in your sources section, couldn't you Doc? PLEASE?!
We're talking about giving our NATURAL talents here. Stuff that is AWESOME but also fits into our budget which is right close to nil, Thank You President Bush.

OK ... back to work ... and no more thumbs down!

I was thinking of writing each of my friends and family members a letter telling them what they have meant to me over the years. I am BROKE, and there won't be any shopping this year. But I thought if I could splurge on a little nice stationery, really think it out, and let them know why I love each of them, what my favorite memories of them are, and why they are important to my life, I could maybe turn that into a decent gift.

If that doesn't work out, I'll be sending you some "Rock Group" Royalties.

Thoughts, anyone?

Blessings,
Kate
