Hosting a wine-tasting party. Any tips?

I'd like to host a wine party and have each guest bring at least one bottle of their favorite. What types of food should I have available?
Also, should I contact a wine shop about making it a full-blown wine-tasting party? If you're familiar with hosting those, what can you tell me? (I'm not sure how many people I'm going to have, etc.)

The best tip gets 10 points ... and maybe an invitation if you live around Wausau, Wis.!

An exciting wine party is the "brown bag wine bash". To set up this party you tell every guest to bring a bottle of wine below a certain price range, and bring a brown paper bag that covers the wine bottle. Capping the price ensures the wines are all about even (A "No chuck shaw" rule might be needed if you have cheap friends =) ). Number each bag and you have a blind tasting! This setup encourages everyone to try each wine and comment on the flavors. I like to set up a big whiteboard so everyone can leave comments about each bottle.

The order of the wine tasting is important. Either make people bring only reds or only whites, or separate the whites from the reds and bring out the whites first. The whites should be chilled (~50F) and the reds should be served at room temp.

For food, just have appetizers in small portions. I'd check websites like foodnetwork.com, epicurious.com, and foodandwine.com for good wine parings and recipes. Make the food fit the wine, red or white. Make sure to have a variety since you don't know what wine your guests will bring.

Putting out a "spit bucket" will give people the idea that they don't have to drink a glass they don't like. Plus, people are less likely to lose their palette from over-consumption.

Enjoy!

What is the Naked Winery? Is it what it sounds like? I think it is a nude wine tasting, what is it for real?

My friend and I were looking around, and we found posted to his fridge an invitation to a wine tasting titled "Naked Wine Tasting" for his parents. We were in an argument weather it was a marketing gimik, or a nude wine testing party. We went to their website, but that didn't answer many questions. For every point for me, there was one for him. We're wondering, if anyone actually knows?

Simply brilliant marketing, my dear. You'll have to check out Great Sex Brewing, then ;)

How do Wine tasting events work? We are taking a limo wine tasting ride for a bachelorette party...?

I received the invitation in the mail, and it states that its $45 for limo ride, includes limo, gratuity, and snacks. Then it lists the wineries we will be stopping at. Next to each winery is an amount such as $2.00 or $3.00.
I have never been on one of these. Is that $2.00 at that winery to try wine? Or does that mean $2.00 for every wine you want to taste there? I have no clue....

the 2 or 3 bucks is the winery fee, which allows you to taste all the wines available. Basically, you just sample different wines and talk about them, and get really drunk...being a bachelorette party and all. Some places are free, some have cheese tastings, etc. All will have knick knacks to purchase if you choose to, and if I were you, i'd bring money in case you find a great wine you love. You can buy a bottle! (or buy one for the bride!) Good luck. Have fun.

We are having a couple's shower with a theme of wine tasting.?

The invite says "let's stock their bar for their new life". I want to have guests bring wine for wine tasting at the party too, what's the best way (if any) to word this on the invitation?

ask guest to bring their favourite wine (and cheese if you like) to help the couple find a new favorite wine. if you like, you can even decide that the best wine of the night (in the right price range) will be served at your wedding.

just say "bring a bottle of your favorite wine". no reasons to dance around it, it's not as though you're saying something impolite. and have fun, it sounds like it will be great!

I'm trying to make invitations for a party with an age range of 13-15, but i'm having trouble wording it. Help

I'm throwing a party for the sake of partying this saturday, but i just can't come up with what to put on the invitations? There's going to be jacuzzi, pizza, pool (billiards kind, not water kind), soda, bike riding, music, Guitar Hero, and all-out unsupervised partying from PM to AM, Yet i STILL can't think of anything to put on the invitations that doesn't sound monotone to me. I want to put something that makes them WANT to come, not something that reminds them of a dull, quiet wine-tasting get-together. By the way, i'm 13 if it helps any. I would greatly appreciate any help or ideas, thanks.

pizza, pool and fun.
unsupervised partying!
"insert address here" be there!

  • Hosting A Wine Tasting Party | Wine Tasting Invitation

A wine tasting party is an excellent way to get people together who have a passion for this art that only few truly enjoy. Tasting wine can be done in either a formal or informal manner. Regardless, chances are the tasters will learn more about the wines they taste and have a great time doing so. Many people choose to attend a wine tasting party before hosting one, so they can get a more comprehensive understanding of what they involve. If you are hosting a wine tasting party, you should be aware that the sweet wines should be tasted after the white wines have been tasted dry first. In reference to red wines, the tasters should begin with the light versions, then go from there. Moreover, begin the party with new wines than proceed to older, more mature wines as the party goes on. Two ounces of wine per glass for each individual is the amount to shoot for as it will allow the guests to get the most out it. Determining the type of tasting your party will offer is the first step to take when planning a party. Wine tasting falls into multiple categories, such as vertical or horizontal tasting, and offering wine with cheese. Other notable types include price point, the big eight tasting, chocolate pairing, and old vs. new. Knowing who your guests are will go a long way in determining what type of wine tasting party you should have. Don’t be afraid to add some creativity and innovation into your party to make it more interesting. For instance, blind tasting is a technique that works more often than not. This involves removing the labels from each bottle so the tasters have to be objective in their evaluations. A prize can be offered to the person who is able to correctly guess the most wines when the party concludes. A trivia session can be implemented by the host as well to help the guests socialize.
