Wine party?

My wife and I would like to have a wine tasteing party. I have never been to one and don't know the first thing about putting on a nice party. I will have to invite one friend that has been to a few and a few people he knows that have hosted parties. How do I go about having a nice party? Do I supply all the wine? How should the invitations read since edict is big deal to the misses?

You could combine wine-tasting with a dinner party, but even if you're not, rustle up some snacks to go with the wine...French bread and cheese would work well. If you want your guests to really notice what different wines taste like, they'll need to eat a bite and take a sip of water in between wines to "clear the palate."
Make sure you have plenty of clean glasses and plates available. It's ok to have folks rinse out their glasses in between "pours" since no one has an infinite amount of glassware.
As for the wine itself, you can either buy a few bottles yourself, or make it a "potluck," saying on the invitation that each person or couple is asked to bring a bottle. [The latter method will result in having a LOT of wine on hand, so watch out!] You may wish to pick a theme...such as a country or state that all the wines originated from, or a variety (like "chardonnay" or "syrah"). If you are at a loss for selecting wines, there are many wine websites that can help you (www.winespectator.com always has a list up of recommended bottles under $15, for example).
And as for invitations...if etiquette details are important to the misses...make her do them! :)

What to bring to a wine party?

I got invited to a wine party and I was asked to bring something to eat. The lady already has cheese and crackers, what else do you eat with wine. This party is a 2 in the afternoon? Can you eat fruit with it. I think i have heard that it brings out the flavors. I dont know what to bring I dont drink wine. Please help me so I dont look like a fool.

Very very nice tomatoes
Almonds
French Bread or Italian Bread
Figs
Quince
grapes
olives

Invited to a wine tasting party and must bring a bottle. What should I bring?

I don't want to make a fool out of myself and bring a bottle that only a wino would drink. Also don't want to spend a fortune. Any suggestions? Can I go to the local Safeway and just choose a bottle? Or must I go to a liquor store?

I would first find out what the host of the party has in mind. If they are leaning toward Red Wines, it would not be wise to bring a white or especially a sparkling wine... However, if it's an open tasting, meaning the real intention is to simply get more people exposed to different kinds of wine, I suggest getting a mid priced Red Wine (by that I mean $15 to $25) bottle of Zinfandel, Pinot Noir or Cabernet.

Some good producers are Joel Gott, Bogle, Coppola, Dry Creek, Cristom and a few others.

For Whites, look for a mid priced Sauvignon Blanc or Sancerre.

Some good producers are Bonterra, Kim Crawford and Columbia Crest.

You will find that most liquor sections display their wines from the top shelf to the bottom shelf corresponding with price. Look right in the middle of each shelf and you'll find a good one to try. If you avoid the top shelf, the bottles are usually $30 and up and the bottom shelf is usually the bargain bin wines.

Wine party questions alcohol?

I'm planning a wine party and need some suggestions. Whats a creative way to make invitations? I'm planning on inviting about 5 people, how much cheese and crackers will be enough? Because I'm serving alcohol, I also want to serve a heavier food and a few extra munchies. Is it okay to ask people to bring their favorite wine or one they want to try? I plan to have extra bottles on hand. Other then discussing the wine and having girl talk, do you know any fun games we can play (we're between 23-30 y/o). Suggestions please!!!

Have the invitations in the shape of a wine glass with the person name on the "wine tag" on the stem.
In some way in the wording of the invite incorporate the fact that you will have wine but they can feel free to bring their favorite wine to share and discuss.

What should a guest bring to a wine tasting party?

My boss has invited us to her place for a wine tasting party? What would be an appropriate gift for us to bring, if any? Taking a bottle of wine does not seem to be a good fit on this occasion, since I am expecting my boss will have already selected the wines she wants to serve.

Delicious variety of assorted olives & seasoning.
