It's acceptable only if you want people talking poorly about you for years to come. It cannot be stressed enough that any mention of gifts included in a wedding invitation is about as rude as you can get.
My Creative Wedding sells A7 Invitation Boxes with address label wraps. Boxes come in all different colors and textures. Address labels are custom ...
My fiance and I are getting married in his country. Pretty much straight after the wedding, we plan to move back to the country we live in. We both know that any gifts his relatives might give us will be difficult to be carried back to our country. We're thinking of writing "no gift box" on our invitation card that encourage people to give money instead of gifts cos it will mean much more to us then. The thing is that we really dont know how to write it in a polite way and to write it in the way that people would understand and not getting offended by it. Please help!!! Any advices is appreciated! THANKS
If you're going to write "No boxed gifts" ("no gift box" doesn't make sense), then you might as well just sell tickets to the wedding instead. You never directly tell a guest what to give you as a gift. The gift is of their choosing.
Unless you're inviting a whole bunch of people to your wedding that neither you nor your fiance know, then people already understand your issue of transporting bulky objects, and will likely give you money in one form or another (cash, checks, gift cards). Leave it at that.
I am going to my friend's wedding and it says that in her invitation. What does that mean? Does it mean they expect money?
My parents thought it was rude too. When I was getting married, we made sure that we did not mention gifts in the invitations in any way.
As everyone has already said the obvious answer (that they are rude)--I shall attempt to give a different answer. Perhaps it is a destination wedding and they'd have to Fedex all gifts home. Or they are moving and meant that they could not fly with any big boxed gifts. They were out of room and meant that due to FAA regulations, please do not give us something boxed but instead wait until we have a new address and mail it there. I have seen that politely added in the invite. "As many of you know, we are in the process of moving to California. Much of our belongings are in storage but we do not have a new address. We will send it out to each of you as soon as possible" That politely informed guests that a big box would be difficult to transport.
Or my only other thought is that they meant
In lieu of gifts please make a donation to a charity in our name. We have all the boxed gifts we need and there are many people who are in far greater need than us. They just didn't know how to phrase it like that.
That is exactly what I would do for them. I would make a nice donation--I recommend St Jude's Children's hospital or Susan G Komen Breast Cancer fund. Worthwhile charities and I'm sure thats EXACTLY what the couple meant. Not to mention--if they were rudely asking for cash, you have nicely not given in to their rudeness and perhaps set them in their place. In fact, I would even include a polite note. Something along the lines of: I know you didn't want anything in a box taking up space, so for your wedding we have made a donation to this charity. We know it is what you wanted most--something that's worth is beyond the limited scope of a box. Congratulations and we wish you many happy years together.
I once received a "small champagne shape bottle", and the label read of whose the wedding was, where and when. The bottle was not to be drank...it was filled with water but very cute. The colors of the invitation, were the same as the Veuve Cliquot bottle. I thought it was very "different and unusual".
Heloo people...I am biting the dust and I wanna make it sound as light as possible...Please suggest wordings for my wedding invitations to be as funny or whacky
The invitations set the entire mood, tone and expectations for your wedding. Be sure that if you make it light and funny that people will assume it is casual.
Buy Cheap
cheap wedding invitation site?
I went to my local print store and for 300 invites with rsvp it was going to cost me 600!!!!!!!!!!!
Then i went to party city and found the exact same invite with rsvp and got them for 325.00!!! all the extras I was going to pay for the 1st time i was no longer paying for. Plus you get like 30% so thats another reason it was cheaper!! So if you have a party store near check them out..
Also davids bridal gives discounts on there invitations.
Another place is ebay! they have great cute ones!!
I picked out my invitations at Michael’s. They come in a kit of 40. Yes you do have to put them together but they are only $34.99 per box. Every Sunday our local paper has a 40% coupon in it. I have several people saving them for me so I can go throughout the week and buy a box at a time. It is kind of a hassle but when I look at how much money I am saving I realize that it is worth it!
