Vintage Invitation

Our wedding is on a DC cruise (passes DC monuments, etc.) and the favors are packs of vintage-looking postcards of DC tied up in a ribbon. Now I need ideas for invitations/reply cards, preferably those we can make ourselves or that are inexpensive, that would extend this theme. Ideas we have include postcard-style reply cards, old postmarks, sepia tone prints (to save on color printing)... Anyone have any good ideas? (Oh, and we need to steer clear of politics due to different opinions in the family! So - DC scenery only!) Thanks in advance for your advice.

I don't know if this would get too expensive, but this is the site for the White House Historical Association which has notecards with vintage type pictures on them. Maybe you could get some ideas from this?

Where can I find the blue vintage-y looking blue fish stamp on the Martha Stewart for Crane & Co. Cartouche Aqua wedding invitation? For that matter, where can I find any cool vintage-inspire (but still in circulation) stamps to put on a wedding invitation?

This is a great site, you can make any stamps you want with the little creator tool, and order them for not much more than the post office sells. They are official too, I linked to them off of usps.com. Just get a vintage photo and put it in there, voila! I am going to use them when I finally get to send out my invites.

I have collected some vintage ceramic baby themed planters from the 50s to use as center pieces and I have found some old fashioned invitations. Does any one have any creative ideas for decorations, games, favors or food? Thanks!

I've added a great blog post for you here from Hostess with the Mostess. I guess for the decorations it depends if you are hosting indoors or outdoors but either way it's always good to try to pick a colour theme and stick with it. You can do tableclothes in a light colour to accent your lovely ceramic planters, if you can find inspiration with your invitations then decorating the event will be a piece of cake!

As for the food, they sure loved their casserole's and soda pop in the 50's so you wouldn't go wrong with a great pot pie (or individual ones) if it's a sit down meal, if it's a day thing than little sandwiches with the crust cut off would be lovely too!

I'm having a 50's party for my 30th birthday this year, but I want it to be authentic (nothing hockey). Where can I find great vintage replica invitations? I've done some searches but can't find anything that doesn't look cheesy.

Well they wouldn't be cheap, but you could go buy little vintage posters from a craft store and attach a piece of paper with the actually information on the back, kind of cute and vintage. They would probably be expensive unless you found them on the clearance rack (i've found some very cute ones in the clearance rack at Jo-Anne's Fabrics).. or you could print something of the computer or even try making your own! ((or try craker barrell)) always good stuff, vintagey, there! Hope that helps!
