For fun--find the religious symbols--next year's holiday card?
Easter angel with eggs and chicks

I ran across this little guy on one of my plants and I see what appear to me to be symbols of a few different religious traditions. I'm curious what others might see--am I missing anything?

Would this make an appropriate holiday picture for next year's end of the year card?

The picture shows the buds and fruits of a Fuchsia--upside down.
The link was working in the preview--here are the pieces:

Good to see the link works for someone...not on my computer.

Yes the Menorah is the most obvious symbol, with 7 or even 9 "candles" if you count the two tiny buds in the center.

Green and red are the symbolic colors of Christmas of course.

7 candles, including 3 green and 3 red candles are among those used for Kwaanza, each color on the sides (not sure which is left and right) with a black one in the center. If I remember correctly.

I suppose one could say there's a red pitchfork in the center--a religious symbol of sorts, although certainly not an end of the year holiday one where I come from. Maybe Halloween.
Kwanzaa. Sorry about that. The candles in the Kinara would be 3 red, 1 black, 3 green left to right.

Yeah, why not? I'm guessing you were going for the menorah look? It's a pretty pic.

design for a winter holiday card?
Vintage Easter Greeting Card Illustration

I have to enter a design for a winter card for a contest in my art class. I need some ideas for a "winter holiday" card. We're not allowed to have anything Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or any other religious holiday in the card, because it's for the school district and will be sent out to all students and staff.

I really want my card to be chosen, and I just need some ideas that are different than anything that's been done before.

help is greatly appreciated!!

it is a shame you can not have anything with Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa, as those celebrations are basically what the season is about. You could do a scene with things from all three celebrations.
The only thing left really is a snowman...but i suppose someone will take offense to that soon enough. Try a ski scene, or a snowy cabin in the hills.

Should I send a holiday card to a business in China? I don't know their religious beliefs.?
Pevensey

Recently I received a holiday card from a business in China. I think it would be appropriate to not send a holiday card, but thank them and send a nice card wishing them a happy Chinese New Year in February. I'm not sure what is most culturally sensitive and appropriate.

Ever since China became the primary manufacturer of Christmas ornaments and paraphernalia, people in China have begun celebrating Christmas. This has less to do with the religious aspects of it and more to do with the festivity of the holiday. So go ahead and send that Christmas card.

how would i take pictures for an upcoming holiday card...?
Angel holding lilies - a circa 1910 vintage Easter greeting card illustration

my photo teacher said the pictures have to be shot before november 1st and have to be about the holidays?
only... they're being sent out in december.. and most people don't even have any "winter holiday" stuff out yet.
it can't have anything religious or anything set on one holiday.
we can't even use candycanes...
any suggestions would be great!
i will choose the best answer :]!

I think winter branches/bark/trees are beautiful. They would work by themselves with great morning or afternoon lighting. Pine cones are also evocative of the holiday season, or plants with berries.

If you can use a ribbon, tie some branches or cones together and shoot closeup with a very narrow DOF.

Practically any good landscape could be a holiday card. Or hang a wreath on an old barn door and shoot it. (I used the same idea for my Solstice card one year.) Or just shoot an evergreen tree in the middle of the field, like a tree waiting for its turn in the spotlight.

What about the sun shining through the branches. With a small aperture, the sun rays will form a "star".

Whatever you do, good luck with it. It sounds like fun!

(St) Valentines day: a religious holiday, commercial exploitation or bit of harmless fun?

It today a genuine religious holiday, as it has a saint's name - in whch case, how do people observe it? Is it another pagan/roman festival that later religions have appropriated, like Easter and Christmas? Or is it just another 'Hallmark Day' to help the grretings card and flower industries. What do we think, people?
Yeah I KNOW it's not really a religious holiday, but surely, as it has a saint's name adn is on a saints day there must be *someone* out ther ewho thinks they shoudl pray to St Valentine or something?

And if we all think it's a big commercial exploitation game, why do we all go along with it...?

A commercial holiday that is a bit of harmless fun, as long as people do not go overboard.

  • Religious Christmas Cards for my Family & Season's Greetings Cards ...

You must check out the newest personalized Christmas cards from the Gallery Collection. Being the devout Catholic that I am, I only send religious Christmas cards ; I refuse to send out Season’s Greeting cards – except to my non-Christian friends, of course. Jesus is the reason for the season and I proudly proclaim this when choosing the Christmas cards I send each year. I know it’s politically correct to say “Season’s Greetings” – even shopping mall employees are forbidden to wish us a Merry Christmas. Although last year I told the cashier that if she didn’t wish me a Merry Christmas I would leave without buying anything. Knowing which side her bread is buttered on, she mouthed it very quietly but I could tell she agreed with me.
