I had pre-printed birthday invitations given to me from an indoor playground where we are having my daughters birthday. This might seem like a silly question but the invitation has 4 things to fill out.
For:, Date:, Time, RSVP. Now while the last three things are pretty self explanatory what goes in the "For" blank? Do I put my child's name there or the person I'm inviting?
Thanks, lol. I thought so but wanted to make sure. It's my daughter's first birthday so I want to make sure the invites are done right. ;)

She puts a laundry list of preferred gifts under her 'gift suggestion guide' as she refers to it on each of her kids birthday invitations as well as the birthday invites for herself AND my brother. And on top of this, for the past 5 years, all of us (parents & siblings) receive an email with the lists of requested gifts for Christmas every year - in OCTOBER! I have searched online for etiquette websites that I can forward onto 'everyone' including her as an FYI but I can't find any. Please help!!
FYI - My brother has no clue she does this. When he found out she did it for his birthday, he said that she never asked him what he wanted. She put "TARGET gift cards" and "COSTCO gift cards". My brother said he didn't want either. I'm assuming that she actually wanted them.

How tacky! And she does this for your brother too?? OMG. I think the only thing that would be acceptable would be for the kids-maybe write "Katie really likes horses, or Brian really enjoys reading" That way it lets you know what their interests are without being tacky and demanding. HTH

Is it in poor taste to put something like:
Santa was very good to me and brought lots of toys. I could really use summer clothes and pjs.

Sorry, Mom. Attempting to dictate what people give your child is not in good taste. The purpose of the party is for the kids to play and eat cake, not for him to get what you think he needs. And I think most people's taste in toys is better than clothing, from my experience.

If anyone calls or asks "What should we get Timmy?" then you could say clothing from XYZ fits him well, otherwise grin and bear the onslaught of toys. Been there, done that. Just pray you get gift receipts with the toys and you are able to do some exchanging.

We have had luck in that arena when we have a short party and gifts are not opened at the party. I always specify on the invites that the party is from "Noon to 2 p.m. Lunch, Birthday cake and icecream will be served. Goody bags will be sent home with your child." That way the parents know the kid doesn't need to eat lunch before they come over, he's coming home full of sugar, and he's gonna have treats in a Goody bag when he leaves our house.
