Because if we could stop all of the stores from selling extra merchandise around the Christmas Holidays. I think that there would
be a World War III. So as you see, many of us have become spoiled.
And to take that out of the equasion, not having gifts and all, would
be nearly impossible. Is Christmas more of a cash crop holiday now,
rather than about Jesus ? What do you think.................
I think if you're a TRUE Christian you know what Christmas is all about for you.... and that's the main reason to celebrate.
For those who Christmas is a time to give gifts and spend time with family....that's their choice.
As an Atheist I'm with the second group.
Isn't Wikipedia supposed to be completely unbiased and have REAL, up-to-date information?
Why, then, doesn't it say that Christmas is currently just a holiday about getting presents and "peace on Earth"? It has nothing to do with Jesus today.

The Origins of Christmas
The origins of Christmas go back to before the time of Christ when many ancient cultures celebrated the changing of the seasons. In the northern hemisphere in Europe, for example, the winter solstice, which was the shortest day of the year, occurs around Dec. 25th. These celebrations were based on the decline of winter. Since during winter animals were penned, people stayed in doors, crops didn't grow, etc., to know that winter was half over and on its way out was a time of celebration.
In the ancient Roman system of religion, Saturn was the god of agriculture. Each year during the summer, the god Jupiter would force Saturn out of his dominant position in the heavenly realm and the days would begin to shorten. In the temple to Saturn in Rome, the feet of Saturn were then symbolically bound with chains until the winter solstice when the length of days began to increase. It was this winter solstice that was a time of celebration and exchange of gifts as the hardness of winter began to wane and the days grew longer.
December 25th specifically coincided the day of the birth of the sun-god named Phyrgia a culture in the ancient Balkans.
In the Roman Empire, by the time of Christ the winter festival was known as saturnalia. The Roman Church was unable to get rid of saturnalia, so early in the 4th Century, they adopted the holiday and tried to make it a Christian celebration of the Lord's birth. They called it the Feast of the Nativity. This custom has been part of western culture ever since.

I have always adored Christmas every since I was a little boy,
I heard that Christmas is a man made holiday that has nothing to do with the birth of Jesus since he wasn't even born in the winter, yesterday didn't feel like Christmas at all if you weren't in the spirit of Christmas,if felt just like a normal day,but next year I will do more to get in the spirit of Christmas.
Christmas is a man-made thing if you believe religion is a man made thing. Winter Solstice is a natural event that "happens to" correspond with approx the same date.
Science has rolled back the astrological calendar and have come to a relative consensus that the Christmas star was an astrological event that occurred in the warmer months and earlier than 0BC. You also have to take into account that our calendar has been adjusted by the church to match moon cycles and such.
The initial celebration of this season was to celebrate winter solstice. This goes back to neolithic times the world over and celebrated that they were mid-way through winter a kind of "it's all-down-hill-from-here" party. The church moved the religious event to coincide with an already celebrated date in a move to replace a natural occurrence with a religious event.
As a disclosure, yes, I am agnostic. I believe religion was created by mankind in general and if it still exists mankind in general needs it. For better or worse. I have no right to tell someone what they can't believe in but in the same token I can believe what I want without prejudice from others.
I am truely offended by this . The birth of Christ is the entire purpose of celebration of this holiday, I refuse to shop at these stores. Please help me out here.
I agree with you. You should watch this music video. Its a song about this.

Reliability Of The Resurrection « Armageddon Apocalypse End Of ...
Is the Bible reliable? Is it really the Word of God? People point out inconsistencies to say that it is not reliable. But when we look at the Bible carefully, we see that all the writers were inspired by God and without error. People attack the reliability of scripture by saying that there are inconsistencies in the resurrection accounts.
What people call as inconsistencies, are not errors, but they actually show the perfect consistency of the Bible. We see that the four accounts of Jesus’ resurrection in each gospel were evidenced by numerous groups of people. There were several groups of women, some coming and some going, who all came at different times and saw different things, at different times of the day. For example, John talks about the account while it was still dark. Luke uses the expression, “far away,” or “deep,” so the light is less. It is a phrase that means “deep morning” where morning is far away. Matthew uses the Greek word “phos,” which means light. Mark gives an account where it is light or the sun is out. These are in chronological order.
