How do you word a bridal shower invitation that's held after the wedding?

I'm hosting a bridal shower for step daughter. I'm not sure how to word the invitation. Her wedding was in March. Her husband was deployed to Iraq two days after the wedding. Because of his pending deployment we didn't have time for showers or a big wedding. He will be home in January and we would like to have the shower before they truly begin their new life together. Any help with etiqutte would be greatly appreciated.

Etiquette is to make life easier, not harder. While it is more usual for showers to come before a marriage or birth, even High Etiquette recognizes that when there are extraordinary circumstances, such as fighting a war, common sense is better than blind adherance to abstract rules. Instead of worrying about creating an invitation that forces a round peg into a square hole, send informal notes. Just buy a few boxes of inexpensive but attractive note cards and dash off a few handwritten lines to each prospective guest.

Dear Virg & Mary,
Have you heard that David finally returns home from Iraq in January? I'm so happy for Lynn and Dave that I'm planning a party for them, a sort of wedding party, welcome home, and house warming all in one. I'm asking everyone to bring some sort of gift for the couple, since there wasn't time to give a shower before the wedding. Please ring me up at 555.877.1212 and let me know if you'll be coming.
Yours truly, Julia

I know that handwriting 40 or more invitations sounds like a daunting task, but divide it up into smaller chunks, like writing 5 invitations on your lunch break, 5 after work, 5 after supper, and so on and you'll be surprised at how quickly and easily you can do it.

HINTS: When people call, casually mention "Of course they won't be opening gifts during the party, so send something seperately if it's more convenient for you." That way people who have already given a substantial wedding gift will know that there will be no embarrassment attached to giving only a modest second gift. It will also signal to your guests that they may have gifts delivered directly to the couple without the bother of gift wrapping.

How to make a bridal shower invitation card?
Peacock - Strutting Your Stuff - Hand stamped Card

My friend is having a wedding in april and i wanted to make some bridal shower invitation cards for her. am currently using windows xp but i don't know how to make the card. any help on how i can make one?

This should be fairly straightforward: Microsoft Word will let you do the layout. Do you know what wording you want to use? Type it in, use the formatting menu to pick fonts and layout; use the insert menu to add graphics, and use the page setup option in the file menu to pick the paper size. Try a sample print on cheap paper, and then run the invitations on your heavier-weight invitation paper.

invited to bridal shower, invitation says 'bring one pack of annual flowers' .. what does that mean?

I received an invitation to a bridal shower and on it, it says:
"Guests - please bring one pack of annual flowers for the bride's garden"
I'm not sure what that means, do they want me to bring seeds for her to plant? or actual potted flowers? and what kind of flowers are considered 'annual'? I'm have no clue about gardening so I'd appreciate any help!

It sounds to me like they are asking you to bring a "pony-pack of annual flowers"...meaning plants. (It's too late in the season to plant any seeds this year) Pony packs are sold at your local garden center in containers holding 4-8 plants per pack. Usually, all flowers sold in pony-packs are annual plants...meaning they live for one season, and die in the winter. They need to be replanted "annually." A few good ones to bring would be pansies, marigolds, snapdragons, cosmos, or petunias. Have fun!

Is it appropriate on a bridal shower invitation to request gift receipts?

I am having a bridal shower for my younger sister. She asked me to include on the shower invitation a request for gift receipts with gifts, so that she can return any duplicates etc. I feel that is tacky, but is this common or acceptable?

I hope you refused to do that. That is not only inappropriate, its insulting, and thoughtless to the would be guests. I can promise you that if I received an invitation with that request, I would not attend. I'll bet I wouldn't be the only no show.

Host name on the bridal shower invitation?

There are 3 people who have pitched in money for the bridal shower. I am the maid of honor and have done the planning and purchasing of everything. Whose name should go on the invitation as host? I do not want to hurt anyone's feelings.

I would list the people who paid. I pitched in money for a friend's shower years ago because I was a bridesmaid and the invitation I got said it was hosted by the MOH- who lives out of the country and did not even attend! I don't know if she kicked in money or not but the invite should have said it was hosted by the whole bridal party.
