Holiday Party Invitation

I am having our 1st holiday party this season. We are having an open bar for 3 hours. Also, we are doing adopt-a-family. So anyone that brings a gift will only have to pay $20 for 3 hours of open bar. Otherwise, if they don't bring a gift it will be $25.

I don't know how to word the invitation...any websites that may help?

My husband and I have started having annual Christmas parties each year (this year being our 2nd one). We do this so that it will be a gift to our family and friends, plus we love throwing parties with family. Unfortunately, this year money is a little tight for everyone, so I decided still to have the party, but to make it a "To give, and not receive party" and I am having trouble with wording for my invitations. I have china I use, informal invitations I send, and everything is very cheerful down to the ice rings with fruit floating in the punch bowl. It is something I really believe my guests find very nice about our parties.

If someone could help me out, I really would like the invitation to say something like, "This year it is important to give, and not to receive" or "this year the theme is giving out of love" and I want everyone to bring something small, like mashed potatoes, a bottle of wine, chex mix- homemade, a cake, plate of cookies, etc. Candy even. Something that everyone care share and still makes the party sorta formal and festive, and NOT galdy...lol. :)

I do not feel that what I am saying is rude though. My guests are alittle nicer then that, that's the reason they are my close family & close friends!!! They are the ones who said I should do it in the first place. I am the kind of person that always does everything and I do NOT even want my guests to have to lift a finger. I do not ask anyone to bring anything, or expect anything out of anyone who comes. But due to a recent health problem and money issues I am unable to have a party as I normally do. So thank you for making me feel rude and ignorant.

Also, I don't think the 'to give and not receive' and 'giving out of love' idea won't engender the response you're looking for. Guilt tripping other people with the 'holiday spirit' to get THEM to do something to help YOU doesn't sound very nice to me. If that's what I'm reading from this, you can bet your buttons that other people will read it that way, too.

Just tell people your party's a potluck, and you'd appreciate hearing what they'd like to bring.

Last month I received an invitation to dinner at our CEO's house for dinner. I couldn't make it because I had to work at my other job. (I work at the hospital on Wednesday evenings and they know this). Now they just sent me an invitation to their Holiday Party which of course is on Wednesday, December 12 and guess what? I have to work so I cannot attend. What do I say? I cannot help but think that they did this on purpose ever since I spoke up about my rights and feelings (in a positive and constructive way of course). I know one of my co-workers doesn't like me and I don't care, I don't like her either. What do I say when I email them back? I wanted to say "How ironic that another party falls on a Wednesday night.." (they know I have to work but will still use it against me probably for not showing up).

Unless you work at a very small company this may not have been done to snub you. Many companies do have the Christmas party during the week because weekends are so full with other family activities. Maybe it was a scheduled date for quite some time. Is it possible you could get someone to cover your other shift so that you could attend? You might realize it has nothing at all to do with your schedule and have fun. Whatever you decide have fun and enjoy yourself.

microsoft clip art is online and free... they pretty much have everything.
