but you need to be definite about dress codes to a garden party, so if you are having a Marquee you might say 'formal' but if it is actually on the lawn or the terrace you may want to say 'Summer frocks and Panamas...and if it's England tell them to bring a Brolly!

I've been invited to a party. All the invitation says is "Oriental Garden Party", followed by the time and date. Then at the bottom in small writing it says "Summer Cocktail attire". I'm pretty sure it's a small informal thing at the girls parents house.
So being a guy, what should I wear? I don't wanna be too casual but not too over dressed either. Do you think a good pair of jeans and a collar shirt would be fine?
The best advice is talk to the hostess of the event for clarification.
Cocktail Attire is mainly formal. It is for gentlemen consist of nice dark suit or coat and tie. It this is less formal at a house; this situation is one to wear a light sport jacket, short sleeve shirt, dockers and loafer shoes.
I consider jeans a big no no at a cocktail party.

To be honest no loan will get you in...because the house is not owned my the crown institute it is owned by the queen herself... each peer can bring 1 friend and has to go through a background check...and a drug test...i bring my friend Sophie, open to peers or hereditary peers...the can however be recommended to Her Majesty by Her represenatives in other countries..such as lord advisors and Lieutenants Govenerors

You dont, they contact you you need to find out what the criteria is for invitation, my husband makes OBE's etc for the Royal Household and was invited last year, It is usually people in the public eye or who have made headlines in the media often for charitable work, sporting achievements etc or those who indirectly work for the royal houshold.
And, just because you are there does not mean you meet the queen, very few do she has a short list of those who are presented but on the whole you just see her in the distance, you cant just walk up and say hi Liz..
