First Birthday Party Invitation

The birthday party doesn't really have a "theme," but there is a sailboat on the invitation. I will be decorating with baby blue and white balloons/streamers/etc. Any ideas that aren't too cheesy? Thanks for your help!

I just have to say... I didn't ask opinions on whether you think I should throw a party or not. I have NEVER known a baby who hasn't had some sort of get together for his/her birthday (at any age). A one-year-old probably doesn't care at this point if he has an actual party or not (though he really does enjoy being around people). But, we will be taking pictures and putting them in his baby book. He will appreciate someday that we invited our family and close friends over to celebrate with him (as I appreciate that my parents did the same for me).

Maybe something like "Ships Ahoy" you're invited....
or "Sail over to my place...."

Hi. My daughter is one in a few weeks and I am just about to send out her birthday party invitations. We are having an afternoon tea with mostly family and a few friends. I know family will all bring presents. How do I word for our friends' invitation that presents are optional. I just feel that people are always forking out for gifts in the first year of a babys' life (birth, Baptism etc.). I do know that if they want to bring a gift they will but I just don't want them to feel obligated. In advance, thanks!

I would not mention it at all. Friends and family will usually bring presents to a birthday party. I dont think you should add any clause at all.

People who dont want to bring presents will not.

Dont worry about receiving them, its your litltle girls birthday, enjoy.

You might consider creating real nice invitations is to go to CropMom.com at http://www.cropmom.com. Cropmom is a online digital scrapbooking, collage, card making site.

Upload your photos. Make your invitation using them. You can add your own text. There are thousands of graphics to choose from to create your invitation. The site has templates and kits. In fact they have two kits dedicated to babies; one "All about baby" and "Visit from the Stork". And you can mix and match from any of the thousands of graphics available for use on the site.

Then save it. Go to My CropMom and click on the layout. Then click the "share" link. It'll let you enter the email address of the recipient, and your screen-quality invitation will be sent via email for free.

For print-quality, you can purchase a JPEG file of your creation (it doesn't cost much for less than $2) and download it to your computer.

From here, you can either print your invitation at home. Or -have it at Walgreens, Costco, Shutterfly, or Snapfish.

I was thinking of a theme like "Giselle's World" for my daughter's first birthday. (Giselle is her name) I'm going to have everything colorful and bright like her personality with flowers and balloons. I was going to do homemade invitations but I cant think of a good way to word them that sounds cute. Any Ideas???
