Bridal Luncheon

First off, are a bridal luncheon and a bridal shower the same thing? I've heard that some brides will take their bridesmaids out to lunch...while I thought a bridal shower was for all your close friends and relatives? I wouldn't mind having both...maybe having the bridal shower the weekend before my wedding and having my "bridal luncheon/bridesmaid lunch" the week of the wedding...more of like an appreciation lunch, and this is when I can give them their gifts I get for them. Also, any good cake ideas if I wanted to make a cake for my bridesmaids for the luncheon? I would like to make a smaller cake with maybe all of their names on it or something? Any sugguestions I would appreciate, thanks!

A bridal shower is thrown by your maids for you.

A bridal luncheon is thrown for your maids by you. You can take them to lunch, make them lunch whatever you feel comfortable with. I'm having mine over for brunch.

You give them their gifts at the rehearsal though...unless you'd rather do it at the luncheon.

EDIT: Also the week of the wedding is perfect timing..you guys can get your nails done after too if you wanted!

I am the maid of honor for my sister's wedding in May and will be attending the customary bridal luncheon the day before the wedding. I am curious as to how formal I have to be and what the best store is to get a dress. Any help/advice is appreciated.

The bridal luncheon is dressy, but not formal. A nice sun dress (if its warm enough) will be perfect. Or a skirt and sweater set will work as well. You want to look like you would when you go to church on Sunday.

My good friend is getting married in a couple of weeks. She announced the wedding a couple of weeks ago and said that the only bridesmaid will be her sister. I just got an invitation to a bridal luncheon which will be held the day before the wedding. I haven't been to many weddings, so I'm not sure what this is exactly. Do I give my wedding gift to her then? Am I expected to dress up? I would call and ask her, but I know she's very busy right now.

You can expect soggy chicken salad and possibly a cake .
Since it is the day before the wedding, I doubt that a gift is required.
Just to have all your bases covered, bring a small gift of a personal nature i.e. a bottle of good cologne,dusting powder,note cards,Bath oil or gel or a candle.
The restaurant will set the dress standards. Is it a formal place or casual ? Even if it is casual, dress nicely. A skirt or dress and nice shoes.

It will be both the luncheon and a lingerie shower together. The host wants everyone to wear hats. Need suggestions on how to word the invitation.

Just write the usual stuff, but then at the bottom make sure to include "Please wear your favorite (insert type) hat!"

My sister-in-law and I want to welcome our new sister-in-law into the family by having a bridal luncheon for her. We don't want it to be a shower, no gifts or anything like that, just a get together, with the bridal party and immediate family. I'm trying to come up with ideas to make it very nice, but I need to keep it fairly inexpensive. Any ideas??

Do a brunch with a couple of egg cassaroles, crosants, biscuits, and bacon. I would offer everyone a couple of options of bread for toast, and maybe something sweet, like danish.
