Black And White Bridal Shower Invitation

My maid of honor sent out the bridal shower invitations last week. FMIL called FH and told him point blank that she will not attend the shower if it is "too black" and that my family has already made sure the wedding will be "too black" by serving food that she and her family can't eat (FH and I will have southern/soul food at the reception-we both love it!) and she hates that we will have "black music) at the reception (FH and I are playing our fave music, old school (clean) rap and rnb) and "way too many black traditions at the wedding" (FH and I are jumping the broom and there will be kente cloth at the reception) She says this is not how she thought her son's wedding would be, that she raised him better than that and she and her family will be uncomfortable at a shower that is "too black". FMIL says she wants a "normal bridal shower". This pissed me off. This woman is racist and I don't care if she is FH's mom. As of right now, I told FH the shower invite is retracted and that I don't want racism spoiling my shower. FH is telling her today that her attitude is not welcome and that if she doesn't learn to be more accepting, she will not be welcome at any future events. Am I not right to put my foot down? By the way, FH is white and I am black.

Good for your FH for telling her she has to be more accepting. At least he knows his primary family is you - this crazy board gets so many questions from people dealing with momma's boys! Be glad you don't have one. I did once, and it sucks big time.

I'm from the South but live in the North - and I find it kind of funny that in the North, soul food is just stuff like green beans cooked the RIGHT way (salted, with pork and simmered for ages - yum!) and fried chicken and such, when in the South, that's just standard cooking - soul food is more exotic. Your future MIL should open her mind and give Southern and soul food a try. Geez Louise, cooked vegetables should be cooked, woman! If you wanted them raw, why did you put them in a pan on the stove?! (Haha, my husband totally disagrees with me on this one.)

Any one have any original ideas for a star themed bridal shower? I can do invitations, and a star cake. I am wondering if anyone has any new/different ideas, and also any ideas in tying in her colors, which are black, white, and red. Thanks In advance!

Wow! That'll be really pretty. How about art mobiles or some stars hanging from either the ceiling or if outside from tree brances? You can buy floating candles that are star shaped for either decor or gifts. You could also get some star shaped cookie cutters and make finger sandwiches. Star shaped glitter on the table clothes. Those star shaped latterns that you put candles or battery operated x-mas lights in would be really pretty in an evening shower. You could either hang those or just set them on tables.

I just would be careful about have too many star shaped things and maybe go for the essense of stars, which in my mind would be midnight blue and silver, sparkle/shine, mystery, twinkling lights, etc

I am the maid of honor, and i have never been a part of a wedding before, i am trying to get some ideas for the bridal shower and for a small bachlorette party.
Her theme is black white and silver with stars.. any idea's for what invitations, what i should decorate with and also what i should pitch in to help with the wedding, i kind of want to spend about 300 dollars for their wedding gift.. but.. any answers to these will help a ton!!! websites are good too!

when i attended a bridal shower this summer (it was my first, too!), the maid of honor/bridesmaids had decorated the place to match the colors of the wedding, in terms of napkins, plastic table cloths, etc. The party favors were little bamboos in vases, with stones matching the wedding colors.
They rented out a shelter in a park, and each bridesmaid brought different food to pass around, so it was kind of like a luncheon - simple things like salads, fruit, veggies, etc.
Some games they had: they had a board up of pictures of the bride from various ages, and you had to guess what ages the bride was in the picture. They also had a survey about the bride (When did her fiance propose? What is her favorite color? What was her major in college?) etc. - the winners of the games got travel sized bath and body works prizes!
Definitely enlist the other bridesmaids to help with buying things, if you can! I don't feel that the maid of honor should carry all of the burden for paying for the shower.

Ok, on Auguest 3rd, my aunt planned my mom a surprise bridal shower, and its a tea party. On the invitation it says to dress for tea. What would dressing for tea be? I have a green shirt, its one of those shirts where its like two in one shirt, its like the top parts white with polka dots and the main shirt is green, and the cuffs are white with polka dots. If I wear that and get a black over the knee lenght skirt, and wear flats, would that be good? If not, suggestions for what I could wear?

Flowy dresses?
