Bbq Party

One of my American friends is organising a BBQ party on 4th July. I am thinking to bring a present, or should I just bring food or drinks as well? If I was to bring some dessert, what should I bring? What is specific? Apple pie, anything of this sort?

Any suggestions highly appreciated.

You can either go down the american baking route or bring something very british ! Your friend will probably have a lot of american dishes about so a good old pudding would be lovely.
The strawberries are very nice this year and Wimbledon is kicking about so it would be a nice summery touch.

OR, bring something from your own country ( Romania isn't it?) or hubby's ( Germany?)

In the summer me and my friends are having a BBQ party campout to celebrate leaving school. I want to plan a really good one because
at the other ones, people got too drunk and most of the time was spent looking after them. There will be alcohol and a BBQ.
How should I plan about asking a lot of people and how much alcohol to tell them to bring?
What's the best sort of alcohol for a campout party?
And how many people is too much?
I want it to be really good and for everyone to have fun :)

1) If you are drinking, and drove to the party, your keys must be in the basket by the front door, or you will not be allowed in, NO EXCEPTIONS we want you to have funn but, we want you safe too.

2) no in laws unless you invite from both sides of the family..

3) no firearms

4) BYOB strictly enforced, this includes recreational pharmaceuticals.

5) Nobody is allowed upstairs

6) No wildlife in the pool

7) fireworks to be lit by designated people only and out doors, No H100's in the living room.

8) If you brought camping gear, everyone sets up as far to the back of the yard as possible.

9) Your bail is your business, no charity.

10) Just because the band is here, is not a reason for anyone to karaoke.. Trust us, you can't sing as well as you think and our yard is not the next 'American Idol' tryouts...

11) Keep the party on our side of the fence, and pick up after yourselves, we've got garbage cans all over the place for this reason.

12) Respect the neighbors, after all most of them are already here.

13) Remember, just about anyone has a cellphone or cam these days, if you don't want your mug on Youtube, then don't try it.

I just need to know the main things for making a great BBQ party. Something like "Top 5 got-to-have's".

We do this every summer! Here are my must-haves:

1. Lots of good BBQ meats: 20lbs of pork spare ribs, 10lbs of chicken breast, 10lbs of ground beef for home made burgers
2. A good potato salad or a veggie platter
3. Lots of drinks (beer, wine, iced tea, soda)
4. Various desserts: brownies, cookies, cupcakes
5. Fruits

Hi, I'm planning on holding a Melbourne Cup Themed BBQ Party on Melbourne Cup Day.
I have no ideas, except to have an outdoor BBQ and setup picnic rugs on the lawn and bring a tv outside.
Any of ideas of decorations? Food ideas?
Anyone know of any good cheap invitation ideas?
The event will be for myself and my friends (all women in our 20's).

P.S. Yes Melbourne Cup will be going ahead this year.

I don't think you should go overboard in planning this. It feels terrible saying it, but the way things are going, there may not be a Melbourne Cup
