Animal Blanket

My son is 7 months old, and has recently started to become attached to a "lovey" -- one of those toys that has an animal head and a blanket body -- he almost can't fall asleep unless he has half of it crammed in his mouth and is chewing on it while he dozes off. Is it safe to allow him to take it into his crib with him, or do I need to take it away after he falls asleep? He can roll over, lift his head easily, and is always getting himself unswaddled and chewing on the blanket anyway.

our son is the same way. We gave up on taking it from him around 7 months b/c within a matter of a couple of minutes of taking it away he would wake up screaming and then there was no sleep for anybody for the rest of the night...we have 2 of those things right now (I need to find 1 or 2 more just so I have back ups)...but we just gave up and let him hold on to it when we would put him down (he's always holding it with either his left hand or both hands with his left thumb in his mouth. A few weeks ago he stirred during the night and when I went to check on him his legs were cool (he was really warm when i put him down) so I just grabbed one of his blankets and laid over him and he settled right back down. The next morning he was on one end of his playpen with his little blankie and the big blanket was in the corner at the other end of the playpen.

I've had my 'blankie' since I was born. I'm 14 now and still love it to death. The smell of it, the feel of it, everything about it is so familiar and comforting. I sleep with it every night and call it 'he'. So I'm wondering what causes children, even as we get older, to get so attached to blankets or stuff animals? Please explain. Thanks :)

I don't know either, but I am a 20 year old guy and I still sleep with my stuffed animal.

i am trying to find a security blanket with out the stupid fuzzy bunny or animal attached to it. they used to sell them at babies r us for like $5 or so, but now i can only find them online for $20. any idea where i can find them cheaper? or instore? also, i CANNOT sew, so that isnt an option.

My son has a blankie that he loves so much that we bought 5. I think that it's bigger than the ones that you are talking about but it's really soft and he rubs it on his face while going to sleep. It's so incredibly sweet!

I have an eight month old daughter who would love to sleep with her blanky and favorite stuffed animal. Does anyone know the appropriate age?

at 8months your child is most certainly not at risk for SIDS, if he wants a blanket or animal he shouldnt be deprived

your child can hold her up up right?, maybe even walking?
theres nothing stopping her from turning her head if she cant breath. now an infant that cant hold their head i wound be more cautious about but my niece slept with her mom in her bed, if she couldnt breath she would turn her head. your child has survival instincts and would move if she couldnt breath, god forbid she have a blanket and a teddy bear, seriously these people are being over dramatic.
