Adult Birthday Invite

The party is in March, 08 So far I have a cake in mind a guitar shape and color scheme will be black and silver.
Does anyone have ideas for decoration, party favors and invitations

do the 80´s rock theme...

crazy hair and crazier clothes...
with your color scheme, you can do a lot by putting the color on the walls like a concert hall...
if you can hang a disco ball.. it will help reflect the light of the silver walls,,,
make it a costume party... people will like that...
the invitations could be like....

I'm a college teacher with a tiny group of 4 students learning our native language in one of very good UK colleges. My 30th birthday is coming up and I would love to have that small lot to be included in the birthday dinner. Is it legal, if so, how can it be done to make sure we won't have trouble, to invite students? The age of them is mixed - from 16 to 20, strictly no alcohol - there will be small children, including mine, total number of friends and family - around 15.
Now, my school is a bit funny with all the rules. I don't want to cause any trouble for any of us, but the truth is, we won't see each other again, as some graduate this year, so that's the last occasion. I am not a UK citizen, no idea about guidelines. I know all the parents and families of all my students - small minority in the area, so everyone knows everything. There are three girls and one man in my student lot.
Any quick help appreciated.

It all depends on what happens at the party.

You could get in trouble for the conduct of everyone at the party as relates to the minors at the party.

Simply because you do not serve alcohol does not prevent the party goers from bringing drugs and alcohol.

Also, if a fight breaks out or any sort of disturbance at the party, you will be held responsible for that trauma as well.

And, then there is bit about your job, the contract you have with the college , and how the school could be held responsible for your actions as well. You could get fired for this one.

In short, not on the face of the question but when you think what all can go wrong you might want to reconsider the invitations.

Hi everyone,
I need some ideas for an adult (22 years old) birthday party. I need locations in the DFW area ... I would like to invite a larger group of people, so having it in our apartment might not be the best idea. I don't think that everyone will want to dress up in costume, either. I would like to be respectful of everyone's budgets, but any ideas would be helpful!
(I'm fairly eclectic, so "interests" vary.)

Please, no explicit answers. An adult party doesn't have to involve "adult content."

No idea where DFW area is, but have you tried any local caterers? My idea would be doing Indian dishes, everyone would sit on the floor and have a belly dancer - get everyone involved.

If you are invited to a birthday cookout for an adult friend who is not family or a very close/best friend is a card sufficient or is a gift to be expected? I usually get birthday gifts for childrens birthdays. I also get gifts for baby showers or bridal showers. Afterall that is the point of showers. But for Adult Birthdays I seem to think gifts are a little less expected....Am I breaking any etiquette rules here? Thanks.

If it were me, I would bring a side dish for the cookout and a card. And if the birthday person were one of my husbands friends, I'd bring beer. I don't know if that goes along with any rules of etiquette though.

My friend and I were MEANT to have an 18th together seeing as our birthdays are close, but she wants to invite her parents, and mine aren't invited (they don't expect to be). I've never known anyone to want parents at an 18th birthday party, until last year my other friend had a bunch of adults at hers. It just seems really dumb to do. Who are they going to mix with at the party and why do people feel they NEED their parents there? Ugh. Seriously, am I in the wrong for not wanting parents there or what?

I always have a party with my friends, and then I have a different night out with my family or whatever to celebrate my birthday.
