Selling Greeting Cards

I am interested in designing & producing my own range of stationery including things such as greeting cards, invitations, correspondence cards etc and would like some information how to get into this. I already work for a design & printing company so actually producing my work is not a problem, I would like some information of the next step from there, how you make contacts, who you sell to etc.! Any advice please or your own experiences! Thanks

Hi, firstly you need to set up a website and have business cards produced. Get a portfolio of your ware, cards, stationery etc. Then call on shops and business's that sell cards and stationery. Show them your goods and hopefully you will get orders. Don't forget to leave them some cards etc and say you'll call back in a week to see how they got on. Perseverance and hard work, good quality goods and you should soon have the orders rolling. Go to local fetes, shows etc and have a stand showing off your cards, stationery etc. Book a stand at Trade Fairs. Very soon the work should come rolling in. Be competitive and don't price yourself out of the market. Good luck

It depends on what kind you're talking about. Are they handmade? Printed? Websites like zazzle.com or cafepress.com are good for graphic design or photo designs that can be printed. No money needs to be invested either.
Or you can be totally independent. Invest in a really good printer or whatever supplies you require. Create a portfolio of card designs and bring them around to small local stores to see if they will sell on consignment -or sell them on the popular crafts website: Etsy.

Ok, I enjoy making cards and am looking at selling them on sites like trademe in New Zealand and Ebay etc. I am wondering if it is illegal if I sell cards which I have made from other peoples patterns, like out of magazines? I don't know because, seeing as I paid for the magazines, does this mean I have the right to sell cards which I've made with the help of them?

You can try and draw things on the computer that look like the patterns?

You can do it the hard way and start knocking on every store you want to carry your cards.
