How many stamps does it take to send a lightweight, standard greeting card from Colorado to Ottawa ON?

There's this little boy who is battling Leukemia, and he wants nothing more than to break the record for most greeting cards recieved. So, I decided to send him one. How many stamps would it take to send a card from Denver, CO to Ottawa ON?

Postage to Canada from the US is 63 cents. This is handy, because you can put on one regular 39 cent stamp and then one regular 24 cent postcard stamp, which equals 63 cents. Or you could buy a 63 cent stamp at the post office. Or if you don't have any postcard stamps, you could just put on 2 regular 39 cent stamps, but then you are wasting that extra 15 cents, which really isn't a big deal.

Where do the X's you put at the bottom of a letter or greeting card originate?

I heard it originates when people would put a large cross after a letter and then kiss it to show loyalty to the King or love to the person it is being sent to...

What's the story behind it?

There are several explanations. Here's one:

Hugs and Kisses is a term for a sequence of the letters X and O, e.g. XOXO, typically used to express affection or good friendship at the end of a written letter or email.

It is debatable which letter represents which act. The most common interpretation assumes that X represents the four lips of a kiss and O the four arms of a hug. For example, the Oxford English Dictionary states that X is "used to represent a kiss, esp. in the subscription to a letter." [1]. A less common interpretation assumes X as the crossed arms of a hug and O as the puckered lips of a kiss. Additionally, there is a more simple interpretation, based on the pronunciation of the letters X (sounds like 'kiss') and O (sounds like 'hold', as in 'I hold you').

Some celebrities sign an autograph and add "xoxo" to their signature in order to express love to a fan.

The use of XOXO goes back to the use of an X or cross, which was considered as good as a sworn oath in times before most people could write and therefore used the X in the same way a signature is used today — a mark of one's word. An X at the end of a letter or document was often kissed as a seal of honesty, in much the same way one would kiss a Bible or kiss the fingers after making the sign of the Christian cross. Thus the X came to represent a kiss in modern times.[citation needed]

The "X" was also the ancient Paleo Hebrew letter Tav, and was a symbol of the Seal of Hashem (God) and it represented truth, completeness, and perfection.

The origins of the O as a hug are not generally known, although it is speculated that it may represent the arms wrapped around someone being hugged.

6 months with my gf, and still no kiss?

i'm 21, she is 17 .. and she's my first girlfriend ever. We love eachother SO MUCH, but till now, we still have a physical barrier between us. We hug, we hold hands, but we never kissed, not even on the cheek! literally, no one of us kissed the other since we met.

We send kisses online, through SMS, through greeting cards, but we are still not being able to get it to real life. I would admit that i am a hesitant person, i find it hard to take the first step, whenever i feel like kissing her, millions of questions start roaming in my head, and i end up removing the idea. And when i mention kissing, i dont mean a french kiss, i doubt that our first kiss ever would be a french! She is also the type who wouldnt ask for something, and she wouldnt approach for a kiss.

Could it be that we dont see eachother much? she lives far away and we dont get to meet very often. And everytime i meet her it feels as if it's my first date .. hhehehe, i think this is a good sign of love.
by the way .. for the two of us, it's the first relationship. We have passes through many hard times, and most of the time she is feeling bad cuz she is doing medication for cancer.

I think you too both like each other so much and you both want it to last forever so you are both holding back a bit becayse you don't want it to go wrong.
My advise to you is if you are both happy how you are at the moment then take your time but if you really want to kiss her then go for it and see what happens if it turns sour just do you up most to apologise to her.
By the way I really like your photos esp "Triangle"
Good luck!!!!

Why do x's represent kisses in a greeting card?

My history teacher Mr Rees told us that in the medival times that most people could not write so when they would sign important documents they would sign their names with an X this would be done before a witness and they would kiss the X to show how sincere they were.

  • Learning to K.I.S.S. before the Holidays

One of the hardest things I’ve ever learned to do was to K.I.S.S. Doing it well requires restraint. When I first started to mature (as a designer), I was scared I wouldn’t be good at it. And with all the options here in the office, it was hard to perfect it.

“Keep It Simple Stupid” (K.I.S.S.) is our theme as we began designing this week’s Holiday Samples. With over 231 colors and 90 shapes and sizes, it is a new exercise to limit the amount of paper goods we use in our inspirational samples. But just because we reduced the amount of layers, doesn’t mean we watered-down the impact of these seasonal greetings.

The following seven Featured Recipes are designed to be both budget and time-friendly. These samples require minimal assembly (adhering an envelope liner or tying a ribbon at most) and rely on graphic design to dole out the seasonal message. We’ve used festive green twine to stitch the Kensington Holiday sample closed. The holiday card heeds the warning: Do Not Open Until Christmas, and the interior of the card displays the NICE scenario of waiting until December 25th and the NAUGHTY scenario of removing the stitching immediately upon receiving the card. Interactive cards are a fun way to send a holiday message. In the Jonas Holiday sample, we’ve designed a seasonal version of the popular fill-in-the-blanks pastime, Mad Libs, allowing the sender to tailor each message to the type of relationship (naughty or nice) they have with the recipient. Each card will have a different sentiment.
