Bridal Shower Greeting Cards

I am throwing a bridal shower for my sister and was trying to think of craft ideas that a large group of people could do together, but I want it to be used during their marriage. I was thinking about greeting cards or something that they can use in the home. Any ideas? This will be their first apartment.

I went to a shower a couple years ago that had a fun idea. The hostesses sent every one an 8X8 scrapbook page and asked that the guest write a memory, or a picture of the bride or groom, or some marital advice or a recipe.

I went to grade school with the bride's mother, and I had pictures of us from 8th grade and a picture of her from a recital when she was in 8th grade. I put the picture of her in her pretty costume on some fancy paper, and made a border for it, and I had some dimension stickers of ballet shoes and a tutu, and then I put our pictures on the back, with a little note from me.

She ended up with a very special treasure from a lot of people who were important in her life and her new husband's life.

I don't know how this really fits, but after my sister's wedding, she had a luncheon at her home for her bridesmaids and we turned their bouquets into wreaths. I got a bunch of grapevine wreaths, and found some additional supplies that went with the bouquets, and several little glue guns, and we had a nice afternoon of chicken salad and burned fingers.

You could get a simple white tablecloth or a throw pillow...something that will take writing, and have all the guests sign it instead of a guest book. Then she'd have a little usable memory of the day.

One last thought is that you could give each guest a piece of cardstock and ask for a complete menu suggestion, with a shopping list and recipes. Have some stickers or ribbon with a recipe or cooking theme and put them all in a scrapbook. I could have used some sure fire menues and recipes when I was a new bride. He had to show me how to make grilled cheese and pancakes because I kept burning them.

Do not want to pay for a greeting card that just gets read quickly, then thrown away. Would rather make something creative to put on the gift to let them know who it's from. Any fun ideas? This particular gift is for a bridal shower, but I would like to start doing this for all gifts.

i personally like to give something the person can use, something that s/he has an interest in, .....
eg. inside all my handmade cards, i add a handmade bookmark too. so even if the card gets thrown, the bookmark will remain inside a book for ages.

or add a sprig of pot-pourri flowers & herbs that can be detached from the card & used in various ways while emitting an aroma.

recently, i've started making square [or round, but square are easier] coasters for mugs/glasses, etc. to add to the card. if you have an overlocking sewing machine, just do the edged with it. you can decorate the coaster with fabric paints, some embroidery, write a message, even make a calendar [one month on one side]..... this is also for keeps & a reminder whenever it is used.

another item i add - motifs of crochet or tatting. you can even add knitting or quilting blocks. i leave it to the reciepient to use as desired. they can sew them together to make mats or laces or use separately on a dress or as an embellishment wherever they like.

i generally like to keep these small for obvious reasons. but the shape & size is totally up to you.

then, depending on the age, you could add friendship bracelets, beaded jewelery/chain, etc. These can also be used as part of the wrapping string.

how about artificial flowers -- make them with whatever material you like. and you won't need anything else to adorn the gift either ;-)). if you leave a long stem, then they can be placed in a vase. otherwise, you can make them into a wreath, etc. which can be displayed on walls, etc. Hidden between the petals or the flowers, you can have the wishes.

or add any puzzle to the card. at least s/he will keep the card till they solve the puzzle ;-))

depending on their hobby, use knitting needles, paint brushes, crochet hooks, etc. to hold a paper scroll that has your message. later, they can just remove the pair from the 2 ends & add to their collection :-))
