Your Gift Certificate

I own a practice and bought somethin related to my practice that would be normally tax deductible. I, however, used a gift certificate for Amazon.com to purchase the product. Is this purchase tax deductible?

You use your basis in the gift certificate as if you paid cash.

Eg, I spend $50 and give you a gift certificate. Your basis in the gift certificate is my $50.

Eg, you get a free gift certificate on Amazon.com for spending too much money at Christmas. Your basis is $0, it's still zero.

I work at a banquet facility where a wedding was held and when the bill was paid the deposit was not deducted, she was fine with getting a check 3 days later for the amount not deducted. the managers decided to give her a gift certificate and took the money for it out of my paycheck. Is that ok?

I am missing something. Why are they making you pay the customer? Did you do something to make them unhappy?

Regardless of why they are give the customer the money, the answer is no. They cannot dock your pay and give it to the customer. Ask they they return it immediately.

If they don't return it you can take it up with whatever PA agency handles fair employment practices.

I just opened a gift from my bf (he is not present) and its a gift certificate to go pole dancing. I am about to cry. This is the last thing I want to do. Help!
We have been together for 3 years and Christmas is also our anniversary. I am in complete shock and so angry that he spent money on strip classes. I am no prude, but I really DO NOT want to go to pole dancing classes.

my poor dad was clueless and got me a 50 dollar gift certificate for claire's and i really don't need it. i do however need the money for something else i'm saving up for. i'm sure i still have the receipt, but i'm not sure if they'll refund the money. is there any way i can get the money back?

im pretty sure they dont let you return gift cards, however, if you can find a friend who would be willing to trade you 50 dollars for it that would be good.
