My husband and I are the godparents of our best friends' baby boy. Should we go with something more religious? I don't want to buy silver monogrammed rattles, cups or anything b/c I know he will receive tons of that kind of thing.
My son got 3 stocks ($100 worth) when he was born. Fifteen years later, these stocks are worth $600.00 (between splits and reinvestments of dividends). I think that stocks, bonds and even precious metals are a decent gift for a new born.
Bring Happiness and Joy to a Childs Life with the Disney Stock Certificate at www.UniqueGiftStocks.com
i want to buy one share of Disney stock certificate for the baby shower. But the baby is not born yet. do I have to register the stock with the baby's name on it?
Very good and generous idea,
You have several options
1- You really should by the stock in the name of the baby's mother or father as custodian for the baby (But you need the baby's name AND social security number
2-You could go to your broker and buy the stock in your account. When you get the baby's name and soc.sec #, you can give instructions to have the stock registered in the name of the baby's mother or father as custodian for the baby
You could check with your broker, some of them do have gift certificates, that may fit. Since you bought the stock from them they could do this just by registering it as "the parents of the new baby"
3-Contact the transer agent for Disney,
Let them know what you want to do, they maybe able to hold the stock in the custodian's name until you get all the details
AND you should sign up for a DRIP, this means a that all dividends are re-invested into partial shares which will be held at the transfer agent
Regardless how you do it, as long as you bought the stock, you could make up you're own certificate (many programs do this and the templates may be on-line) and delivery it at the time of the shower.
Hope I've been of some help

Oneshare.com wants a $39 transfer fee. I don't need a frame just the certificate.
The $39 transfer fee is pretty reasonable, including the frame! Most brokerage firms charge between $25 and $50 to issue a stock certificate. And of course you have to first pay a commission on the purchase of $7 to $20.

I want to make a fake stock certificate for a gag gift- any ideas
But how can I make one? Where do I go to print one??
As long as you don't use the name of a bona fide company, you should be okay. Google the name of the fake company you want to use to see if, in fact there is a real company out there.
In addition, you should have a disclaimer on the "certificate" that it is not a security instrument, has no value, is not associated with any business entity, it is a parody and not to be taken seriously.
I received a stock certificate a few years ago as a gift, however I don't know how to sell it.
To sell a stock certificate you must have some form of documentation to a stock broker to sell your stock of a company(s) and they will send you a check or transfer to your bank account.
Here is a link that I found it to be useful:

Why You Should Give Stocks As Gifts | Money Talks News
Http://www.oneshare.com/ sells real stock certificates from many companies, including all the ones you mentioned. The Disney stock looks like a very nice present. They will even frame and engrave it. Not cheap, but will fit under a tree. Disclaimer: I’ve never bought anything from this company or work for them. Just thought you might be interested in a source for your gift idea.
How irresponsible is this advice! We have a market that has taken a nosedive and is slowly recovering. But we have a bigger problem that this author ignores and that is the HUGE debt this government has run up that is absolutely impossible to pay. We are headed down a path that, contrary to what you may want to believe, is looking at high inflation and devaluation of the dollar. We have a government destroying jobs and companies. We have a government whose plans with healthcare and cap and trade will destroy our economy and you have the gall to recommend investing in stocks? Are you nuts? People should be taking every cent they have and paying off debts. When all debts are paid they should be careful to invest in very secure instruments and tangibles until this shakes out, if it ever does. The world has never had a nation with so much debt or such a foolish method for dealing with it’s financial problems (No one has yet to show how you get out of debt by going further into debt. If that worked why wouldn’t we be recommending that every single person go into as much debt as possible?). You should be ashamed of yourselves for publishing such irresponsible advice.
