Gift Certificate Paper

gift cards are everywhere now, but just a few years ago consumers could only give out paper gift certificates. Which company/retail store is credited with giving out the first gift cards?

The first ones I remember seeing were from record stores (remember those?) like MUSICLAND and TOWER RECORDS

I was looking online and i saw an auction for a gift certificate from sears that was a paper copy that would be emailed to you. Seems kind of fishy. Has anybody had experience with it?

I've never heard of a paper gift certificate. I know they often send coupons online that you can print out, but I've never heard of a gift certificate that was paper (seeing that the majority of the places use reloadable cards). Without a receipt, it's hard to tell whether or it's legitimate.

I like the cash suggestion. I've done that for someone's birthday and folded the bills using instructions from a money origami book. They had a regular little "zoo" once I was done, since I did mostly animals. (The elephant tended to fall forward on his trunk since he was a little front heavy)

Amazon.com still does paper gift certificates. As for stores...you'd have to check around. Most seem to be switching to the credit card type gift card.

Hello! I recently bought a gift for someone that includes a gift card and a printed-out gift certificate. Unfortunately, the gift certificate printed out to be full paper sized (8x11). I was wondering if anyone had any cute ideas for how to wrap/prepare these cards to give to her?
(I'm not sure if it helps, but the gift certificate is to the fox theatre and the card is for a restaurant)

Since the certificate is to the Fox Theatre, can you get an old Playbill and make the certificate part of that?

The gift card could be tucked inside a Chinese Food container (they sell them at craft stores). Use some raffia or crimped packing shreds to stuff the carton.
