Sending a gift certificate from US to Canada?

It's a $50 certificate... are there any forms or fees that I should know about? What's the best way to send it?

Put it in an envelope and mail it.

Just make sure that the particular brand of store exists in Canada and that they take US gift certificates.

A wedding gift for my soon to be husband?

We're getting married this Saturday and I still havn't decided what to get him. He's hinted at a couple of things that he would like but I've narrowed it down to two ideas and I'm having trouble choosing.

The first is the very unoriginal watch. He does love watches but just got a really nice one about 6 months ago, but he only has 2 one nice, one not so much...
I would wait untill after the wedding to get it engraved to be sure he likes it.
I would engrave in it something like "Time After Time" which is our wedding song or maybe "untill the end of time" along with our wedding date.

The other Idea is a little more risky. He had said that he wanted to get a tattoo of the liberty bell (we live in philly) with our wedding date. He already has 4 tattoos so I know it is something he will like. If I did this it would be in gift certificate form and I may also get him a nice pair of sunglasses (we're going to Key West for our honeymoon).

along with which ever Idea I pick I am having a design he drew made into a t-shirt.

so my question is, which do you think I should do? How can I present it in a special way? Keeping the same basic idea, what could I do to improve it?

Thanks!

i think the tat idea is best! and do you like tats? or would you be willing to get something with your wedding date on it first w/out him knowing and show him? he would then know he would get one too lol

idk its late and all i could come up with for now

good luck and congrats!

possible amount out of gift certificates combinations?

Suppose that a store offers gift certificate in denomination of 25 dollars and 40 dollars. Determine the possible total amounts you can form using these gift certificates. Your answer should be proved using Induction.

Any help?

thanks.

Well, let's reduce this a bit.

Whatever you get, it will be a multiple of 5. If you buy x and y of them, your total comes out to be:

25x + 40y = 5 ( 5x + 8y )

So focus on the 5x + 8y.

A theorem in number theory tells us that we can write ANY whole number as 5x + 8y, but that would allow x and y to be negative, which makes no sense in the real world.

Think of the total amount you want 5x + 8y to be. Call this D.

First of all, you can get anything like:
5 , 10 , 15 , 20 , ...

D = 8 is a good second place to start. From there, you can get anything that is leaves remainder 3 when divided by 5, just by increasing x:
8 , 13 , 18 , 23 ...

D = 16 is the next one to try. This lets you get things that leave remainder 1 when divided by 5. Again:
16 , 21 , 26 , 31 ...

Keeping this up, you can get:
24 , 29 , 34 , 39 , ... (remainder 4 when divided by 5)
32 , 37 , 42 , 46 , ... (remainder 2 when divided by 5)

In particular, we get everything past D=40 for sure. Let's review:
5 , 10 , 15 , 20 , ...
8 , 13 , 18 , 23 ...
16 , 21 , 26 , 31 ...
24 , 29 , 34 , 39 , ...
32 , 37 , 42 , 46 , ...

So the largest thing you can't get is right "below" 32 in the row of 32s. Just "step back" from there: 32 - 5 = 27.

Notice: 27 = 8×5 - 8 - 5.

ANSWER: 5 × 27 = 135

I need to get the info on the CA law re: gift cert and whether or not the store can put an expiration date on?

Can a merchant call a gift certificate a "voucher" instead, put an expiration date on the form, and take your money then charge you and additional fee when the expiration date passes just so that you may use that "voucher"?

Yes, they can and do, in order to get you to use the "voucher" as soon as possible. Especially if it is for a service, not a product. If you buy two meals at a restaurant and pay today's prices, they have to serve the food before the cost goes up on the raw materials to make the dinner...same with any other product. It cuts their profit margin to let you wait too long to use the "voucher."
