Gift Certificate Award

My friend's teenager has been accepted at Yale on early admissions. I want to get the kid a gift certificate she can use to buy items she forgot to bring or didn't think she'd need at school. We're middle class and all of us have lived at home and commuted to college.

Is there a Target or WalMart near the campus a student can walk to?

What store would you recommend?

What do kids forget to bring or need to buy unexpectedly?

Congrats to the new admittee. There is a WalMart in New Haven, just not too near campus. The school should provide a list for dorm living, but I would suggest getting her a book at a bookstore written by someone who has taken this on--much more appropriate these days! Also, she will have access to online buying, and that is very useful at a place like Yale. I remember I needed safety pins (no kidding, it was a big deal). I'm sure the chatrooms would have something like this as well.

I am wondering if Juddas recieved an award, maybe a gift certificate to yahoo store? A stay at a time share? Air line tickets? I want to get to a 3 but I need motivation.

I am running a new blog, and I would like to ask companies if they would be willing to donate items that would be awarded as weekly or monthly prizes. This is a blog based on a celebrity, so I am expecting high traffic to the site. Has anyone had such experience in this? How do I go about asking, and which companies are more than willing to donate their products or gift certificates? Not only will the winners be happy, but the companies are receiving free advertisements. It's a win-win situation!Thanks for all of your answers and advice!

Companies will almost always only donate to non-profits and 501c3 organizations or schools. You are out of luck mostly.

I'm looking for a new Visa credit card and want automatic rewards. In other words, all I have to do is spend and the awards apply automatically.

I have no "credit worthiness" issues (score 800+) to worry about.

Things I do not want:
- I have to contact the credit card issuer to redeem awards.
- Rewards have to be taken as part of a car purchase.

I'd prefer that the reward be an automatic credit to the account but it's ok if it's automatic but not a credit (e.g. Amazon.com Visa issues gift certificates automatically).

The Pentagon FCU Visa offers 1.25% automatic cashback, but I do not qualify as a member.

So what's the best deal for such a Visa?
