Personalized snowman family Christmas Card.
I am looking at getting one for my wife for christmas, but i have very little info on it.
How long do they last under normal wear and tear? Is she going to have to spend a fortune on upkeep (blades, mats, paper, etc.)? How many cartridges will be needed to be able to offer some functional variety to card making, and scrapbooking?
Any and all answers will be most appreciated.
Thanks
I have drooled over that thing, and have almost bought it several times. Here is my issue with it: I don't mind the initial price for it and the couple "free" cartridges you get with it, but all the other cartridges cost like $50 each.. thats alot of money! The blades are reasonable...but the cartridges are not. And you can't use a coupon on them at any craft store that I've seen.
At the least, she definitely needs at least one alphabet and maybe a cartridge with some swirly stuff, and maybe a holiday one. Definitely the alphabet is a must have.
I ended up buying the Cuttlebug Die Cutter and Embosser. It is more limiting, but you can get alot of shapes, alphabets, etc. For $500 you could get the Cuttlebug and a miriad of embossing plates and diecutting plates.
I have the heating tool, rubber stamps, and the ink, and I had the embossing powder [last Christmas] I tried to make my Christmas cards but it just didn't look the way I want my embossing to look. Please give me your tips, tricks and ideas! I will really appreciate any and all advice! Thanks!
Dry Embossing is done with a stylus, light box and brass stencil.
First using removable scotch tape tape your brass stencil to the light box.
Use one strip of removable tape to tape your card stock on top of the brass stencil. Using your stylus (always use the largest "ball" of the stylus that will fit into the design) trace around the entire design of the brass stencil.
It's that easy!
If you want to color the design, remove the stencil, flip the completed embossed design over, and re-apply the stencil and then use chalks, inks or other medium to color in the design.
Since I am a beginner I'd of course prefer easy ones. Can you get all the supplies at scrapbooking stores?
I found a nice tutorial with pictures at the DIY network website: http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/hd_christm as/article/0,2025,DIY_13889_2276835,00.h tml
This site also gives a nice list of books about card making that you may want to check out from your library.

Students learn by scrapbooking
Students at Poland North Elementary School are greening up the community.
The roughly 40 children completed a scrapbook as part of the Disney Planet Challenge, a program designed to teach them about science, team work and conservation.
“The grand prize is a trip to Disneyland,” Principal Michael Masucci said last week.
But the school is focusing more on what the kids can learn, he said. Poland North students decided to focus on recycling.
Teachers Karen Vasko and Tracey Kaschak said the scrapbook documents the students’ environmental efforts that started last October.
“It made them so much more aware of their actions,” Kaschak said, referring to recycling or a lack of it.

I’ve always wanted to try scrapbooking on my computer since that’s where all my pictures are and have loved how simple this program was to figure out. It’s fun, the designs are beautiful and it really is a great program that totally works for me. If you don’t have time to figure out the more expensive Photoshop, then I would highly recommend this software!!!
