I have many non-believing friends. Our Christmas cards are almost always Christian theme (photo cards from Walmart). I've never heard complaints of it before so I'm assuming it's not been offensive to anyone that I know of.
Would it be offensive to you though? Why or why not?
(please, keep it civil. that's all I ask)
pdooma- not in the least :) and you are right, the wise men didn't show up until later, but for some reason they are almost always in the nativity... lol.
Would it surprise you all to learn I was once agnostic? :) I understand both sides of the fence pretty well, though I am now biased to one side now.
I would say half of the Christmas cards we receive are of religious nature. I don't mind, at all. I like getting Christmas cards!
On a side funny note: You know how some people will wrap gifts in religious paper? Well, last year my mom wrapped everyones gifts in Jewish wrapping paper. When we pointed it out (because she isn't jewish) she just laughed and said "Oh, I thought it was just so pretty!" ha ha
SURE I LOVE THE CHRISTMAS SEASON ALL THE PRETTY STARS AND ANGELS SCENTED CANDLES GOLD AND SILVER GLITTER THAT PEELS OFF AND MAKES A MESS RIGHT ON ...
Ok, so my school is having a contest for taking a photo of something that truly means Christmas. (it is a private catholic school, so religious ideas are fine). it is going to be put on the front of christmas cards. it is due november 21 so it is kind of a bummer, no snow, not much christmas things up. so if you have any ideas, please let me know. thanks! =)
When you think of Christmas what do you think of? Do you think of the Christmas tree, candy canes, presents, snow and orniments? Or do you think of newborn Jesus in Mary's arms?
When I think of Christmas, the religious side, I think of baby Jesus, all the animals, and everything from the story of Jesus' birth. When I think of the non-religious side I think of my family, everyone being together, celebrating together, the smiles on my neices and nephews faces as they open the presents and finding they got exactly what they wanted, everyone laughing and sharing stories.
I guess it all depends on how YOU think of Christmas.
Good luck!
Afghan: When shooting stops, some soldiers read
(03-01) 01:31 PST BADULA QULP, Afghanistan (AP) --
When he was a child, and it was bedtime and lights out, Gene Hicks would hide under the blankets and read with a flashlight. Now he's Army 1st Sgt. Gene Hicks, fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan, and sometimes lies in his sleeping bag reading with a flashlight.
"I'm still doing the same thing," said Hicks, whose mind travels far from the war zone to a world inhabited by a monk, a duke, an assassin and the merchant princes of medieval Europe.
Hicks, 39, of Tacoma, Washington, is reading "The Anger of God" by Paul Doherty, a mystery novel set in London in 1379. His girlfriend in the U.S. wrote to Doherty to tell him Hicks was a fan. The author mailed a prayer card, autographed copies of four books, and a note — "Be safe."
Greeting Cards: All About Holiday Cards | Jewish Entertainment
You may think of holiday cards as being Christmas or Seasons Greetings cards, but really there are many more holiday cards than this one holiday. There are holiday cards for Christmas, Hanukah, Easter (or Resurrection Day), Thanksgiving, Halloween, Columbus Day, President’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Independence Day, New Years, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparents Day, and Administrative Assistants Day. As you can see, there are many holidays we celebrate, and each of them have their own holiday cards.
Holiday cards were not always so popular. Only in the last several years have holiday cards been created for all of the holidays we celebrate as Americans. I was surprised to find Halloween and Thanksgiving holiday cards when I went Christmas card shopping last year. I later discovered that holiday cards are becoming more and more popular, as people send holiday cards all year round to their friends and family. It is becoming increasingly popular to send holiday cards to all of you friends and family at every opportunity, just to let them know you care.
