How to Create a Great Modern Family Christmas Card?
These Three Trees

My Family and I love the opening to Modern Family where there are pictures inside picture frames. We were thinking about that idea for a Christmas Card. Do any of you know any website or any way to do that? Thanks!

I did this last christmas. do this step by step.

get a light blue scrap booking paper with small white lines and cut it to be the size of a regular card.
get a green paper with little snowflakes and fold it onto the top left Corner and bottom right.(1in)
get a wavy ribbon and put it where the blue and green come together.
get your picture (make it the size to be a little bigger than your wallet) and put it on the middle rigtht
get a see through sticker (its clear so you can only see the words) that says merry christmas and put that next to the picture but up and inch higher
get a snowman sticker and put it below that.

all done!
good luck!
Merry Christmas!

What would you like to see on Christmas cards?

A lot of shops already have them out, Just wondering what people like eg. Nativity scene, Santa, Modern, Simplistic, scenery, Victorian, animals, children, couples, family.

I like receiving Christmas cards that are evocative and show true artistry from whoever designed them. I don't mind if it is a nativity scene, kings on camels, fat robins, angels or choirboys throwing snowballs, a partridge in a pear tree, a Hamish farm, a Kentish oast or a Cornish harbour watercolour, a reproduction of a great master, or a photograph of a beautiful landscape. In fact it is the mix of different subjects that gives me pleasure as it reflects the personalities of the senders. I loathe the present trend that has just one beribboned parcel stuck on, or four identical silhouettes on a plain background that make the whole thing dull, unpoetic, joyless and meaningless. Although I must admit I received one "artless" card last year which had just a plain shiny dark blue background with a small cut glass stone sparkling like a star at the top and that was both meaningful and very striking in its simplicity. Another that made a real impression was a stunning photograph of a single snowdrop in the snow.
Those that take pride of place on the mantlepiece are those that have been painted and decorated by my young grand-children. They may be garish with a wonky Santa and tons of glitter and cotton wool, but they have been made with love.

I used to send out the beautiful cards designed by Janet and Anne Grahame-Johnstone, published by Royle, which were so evocative and magical but sadly they are no longer sold. Now I buy several designs and choose one that I know will mean something special to the person who receives it and corresponds to their taste, personality and beliefs.
We can't give a present to everyone, but a carefully chosen Christmas card means "This is my present to you. I hope it gives you pleasure and tells you that you are still in my thoughts".

As many answers as possible please. Christmas Cards?

What did you look for this year when buying your cards? And your wrapping paper?
Cute? Glittery? Minimalist? Modern? Traditional?
What attracts you most on a card?
Thank you.
Ah Champagne Account I dont believe it of such a cute avatar as the one you show! Far too nice!
Amyrawr - what constitutes sophisticated in this case please?
Lucy S - but what type of cards? Or do you just go for price and let that dictate what you choose?

Well Pooh! Funny you should ask this, beause for the first time i was very selfish with my Xmas cards The reason being i had lost my dog of five years in the summer, and was given a pup for my birthday in Oct,
consequently all my cards were of pups wearing Santa hats 'sitting under Xmas trees in fact every one that received a card had a pup of every breed you can think of. with a Xmas theme. lol I really enjoyed shopping for them.it was also a way of introducing my pup to everyone.
As for wrapping paper i am afraid i just seam to have lost the excitement that there use to be in wrapping presents ,so now i use gift bags , unless it is a gift for a child , then i tend to go with a good quality charity paper featuring Santa and snowmen. Good luck in the New Year.

what should I write on my Managers christmas card?

I don't know what to write on my managers christmas card. It already has a greeting printed on it, but I wanted to personalize it a bit more. But I have no idea what to write. Me and her get along fine, and she is a nice person. I want to write something modern, short...but professional at the same time..."seasons greetings" and "merry christmas" are a little old school, so I wanted something more modern.

How about "Thank you for everything you do for us" See, you give her the credit and look appreciative in the meantime.

Is this a good christmas gift for everyone in the family?

For christmas, for all the families (extended families) we were thinking of doing a family portrait with our daughter (she will be 1, on jan. 1st.. so like an updated picture) along with a christmas card, and a letter updating everyone on our family. Then we were also thinking of doing a christmas cd, like with all our fave music, or even just like some classical music, or modern christmas music.. not sure.. then on the front of it do a label with our picture on it that says christmas 2008 on it..

does that sound good? or to much?
It might seem weird I am already thinking of christmas, but I like to get stuff done with in October-Novemeber.. so I start thinking about it early...

I think that is a lovely idea. It shows that you have thought about it and it has a personal touch!

  • MODERN COUNTRY...: Letterpress Christmas Cards...

Letterpress printing is a term for the relief printing of text using a press with a "type-high bed" and movable type, in which a reversed, raised surface is inked and then pressed into a sheet of paper to obtain a positive right-reading image. Since most letterpress artists use luxuriously thick and creamy cotton stock to print on, the result is dreamy, classic and one-of-a-kind.
