Can You Think of a Christmas Gift that YOU can GIVE that is a lil piece of you but won't cost much? ?

I gathered rocks in the desert today that have little faces on them and I'm gonna glue them to a wooden base and include a self-made Christmas card that I'll design on my computer and print on my Xerox and put it all in a white box and when people open their gift they will realize that just received their very own Custom Rock Group. I even found some hair that I trimmed during last weekend's haircut and with a little glue I can give my rock personnas a mohawk or eye brows or a toupe.

So ... what is your creative forte? Do you have an awesome cookie recipe? Perhaps you can make a wicked quiche? Or you "poem people" can create a Christmas card poem that tells your closest friends and relatives why you totally love them, and make them cry with happiness (Thnx for that idea Soror! ).
Let's face it ... the economy here in the USA is NOT the BEST and money is tough to come by so what is your secret passion, the ONE ability that you have been hiding all these years, something that you can give that speaks totally YOU!? Share with the WORLD ... the odds are that NO ONE HERE lives anywhere CLOSE to you so EVERYONE SHARE and whatever seems to speak to you, GO WITH IT! Share yourself with those you love and make this the BEST CHRISTMAS EVER!

NOW .,.. it be YOUR TURN! Carry on ... What have YOU Got!?

dartagnon, i absolutely love and support what you are doing here...opening others to new possibilities. i am especially against rampant, insidious commercialsim and the obligatory gift-giving that so many indulge in, not to mention the self-interested expectation of receiving a gift, which somehow clouds the spontaneity and natural motivation for giving something to

i certainly have done my share of overindulgence in that department, creating lavish Christmas mornings for my family over the years when we were still a family...but that was awhile ago, and i have since looked back at the senselessness of it all. i think of the money blown on big ticket items, the necessity for multiple gifts to give a feeling of abundance to each family member, the Christmas clean-up waste that is created and that can't be recycled, the false sense of "sharing" that substitutes for real relationships, etc.

In my later years, i only give gifts to my grandsons, and i don't wrap them either...and i might not necessarily give them on Christmas Day.

i would love to see people giving love and service and time to one another instead of goods. Every "thing" we give, generally speaking, misses the point of connecting with another. Time spent helping others in ways that they uniquely need help with, words of love and caring written to express gratitude for the relationship, sharing a memorable and fun-filled outing, etc., have a warmth and sincerity that things can't convey in quite the same way. Though when at a distance, as many are, i can understand wanting to give a token of love and remembrance to them.

And i love your idea of using natural things (and with a sense of humor, to boot)..now this is really environmentally involved. Rocks, in fact, happen to be one of my favorite things, and i love to hold them to let them speak to me. i also love the idea of so creatively decorating the Christmas tree as Keau describes. Now that is NOT buying into the conditioned commercialism that's been crammed down our throats. We have become slaves to advertising, slick magazine articles, newspaper reports of doing our part for the economy, TV commercials, etc. Surely we are not a nation or world of robots (though we are treated as such by the Corporate puppet-masters)...rather we are are compassionate, loving, caring, heart-motivated beings who can give and receive without succumbing to all the Christmas, Easter, Valentine's Day, Birthday, Halloween hype that snares us in a loop of mindless, obligatory spending.

The question is, what are we teaching our children about becoming genuinely authentic beings? Rather than a heap of presents, why not a family outing tailored to the interests of the family? Or a family service day for someone who has little or nothing or is in one kind of need or another. Surprise a shut-in with a Christmas meal on wheels, but include your family to share it with them & bring joy to a lonely one. It is all about connecting and including, not about selfishly accumulating.

We are one family, after all, and the more basically we can express that, the more authentic we all become.

First Anniversary Ideas?

My husband and I will have been married a year on June 20, 2010. I want to do something special for him. I'm just not sure what. The tradition is paper. This opens up a great variety of options...I'm just not sure what to do.

On our honeymoon, we wrote our names and the date we were married in the sand. I thought about framing that.

For Valentines Day, one of the things I did was cut out little hearts and write "I love you" in several languages on some and the others famous love quotes and stuck them to the bathroom mirror. So, I don't want to do something like that.

He's really into golfing. None of his favorite bands are coming close anytime soon. He already gets all the magazines he wants. I wrote him a a story about how we met and had it printed at snapfish.com for Christmas. We are taking a small vacation in May because I work at a college and it's the only time we can both take off at the same time. So, a trip wouldn't be feasible.

We play Rook a lot. I found a website where I can get custom Rook cards. I don't know.

The "paper" thing shouldn't be this hard. My mind is just stuck in the cliche box. Maybe I could make him a card and that could be the paper thing and I could get him something to go with it? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!!

I'll be married 14 years on the 21st of June...good month for marriage!

If you print the picture you took it counts as paper! Anything counts as paper if it's paper! The Rook cards sound good too. Think of something he can use for years to come - journals, books (even reference ones), coffee table book on his favorite sport...paper is all around you!

Sometimes when I shop for gifts I go to the mall and browse...I can see a lot of stuff that way and come up with my own idea. We also use the gift charts - makes anniversary shopping more like a mini scavenger hunt! One of the best places I shopped was a little curiosity shop - they had great stuff for when you get into the metals...good luck!

  • How to Create Custom Labels and Gift Tags for Christmas Gifts

The wrapping of Christmas gifts is as important as the gifts themselves, in some ways even more important because the gifts are mini decorations under the tree. An often overlooked element of the package is the gift tag. You can create custom Christmas gift tags as simply or as elaborately as time and your imagination allows and dress the gifts appropriately for the season.

Customize a Free Printable Christmas Gift Tag

Begin with a blank gift tag template . Copy and paste the template into a photo or image editor such as the free Paint program that is included with Microsoft Windows. More advanced editing programs will produce higher quality results, but Paint will work nicely if you have nothing else available. After pasting the blank gift tag template into the program you have chosen to use, begin customizing the template. Choose a Christmas quote for the top of the tag, add color, designs, and clip art. Then print the tags on heavy cardstock paper.
