I have a large amount of Christmas Presents to get this year for my friends, but don't have alot of money to get it with.
I would really like to get them all something without leaving any one out, but don't have a clue what to get them that doesn't cost the earth to buy.
All or any suggestions welcome :)
How about that old chestnut making something yourself? It used to be common practice before christmas got so commercialised and put everyone into a state of bankruptcy!
How about making sweets? I once got strips of orange peel dipped in chocolate in a lovely tin (a bit more to it than that, but along those lines). Truffles, home made chocolates, special fudge.. small christmas cakes. You can get ideas from cookery books in the library, you don't need to buy the books.
Something you might suggest is that you all keep to a budget - i.e. no-one exceeds £5 per present for example. Sometimes that can be a challenge to people's inventiveness. Lots of presents at £5 each could be a lot though... depends how many you want to buy, and your budget
. You could also get all your friends round and put names in a hat, each person pulls one name out and buys for that person.
Or... how about writing a poem or a special letter to each person telling them why they are important to you. Tell them what you like about them and how much you value them in your life. Write it on nice paper with a special pen, and present it beautifully wrapped. You might find that far more appreciated than a commercial present.
Or how about a photo of the person perhaps with you when you did something memorable? You could frame it, or even put it in a clip frame which is inexpensive. If you don't have a photo now, you could take one in readiness without explaining the intention!
Have a lovely christmas. You are lucky to have so many people you care about. Love is far more important than what you spend.
any ideas for cheap chrismas presents? i like to make crafty things and is there anything christmas - ey that would be cheap and look like it is good quality?
There are a lot of fun things to do for Holidays.
Kids: Large plastic bowl (usually a buck), box of cake mix, frosting, sprinkles, candles. Usually all that under $3.00 (if catch it on sale). Then they can make their own cake and eat it too. Sometimes I toss in cup cake wrappers. Can be for any occassion.
Chocolate Spoons: Melt chocolate, buy a big box of plastic spoons (usually cheap in bulk..BJ's or AC Moore). Melt chocolate in microwave. Let cool a little bit. Dip round part of spoon in chocolate. put on wax paper. Sprikle with coconut, nuts, etc. (what ever your fancy). I like to sprinkle crushed candy canes. Then let harden and wrpa in clear bags and tie with a nice ribbon. I like to go a step further. Get some clean baby food glass jars (freecycle.org) and then paint or stencil them with decorations. Put a packet of instand hot chocolate in them and then tie a cute poem (usually can find online) on a index card..holiday shape and tie the spoon bag to the jar and saying. Cute for co-workers or small gifts.
What ever your trade...I like to make coupon books for friends. (ie. one home cooked meal and then I list what they usually like to eat..and I am good at making, or free baby sitting for a few hours out (you write how many)...and on this one..I may tape a gift card to the mall or a restaurant, etc. Be creative! I sometimes put in..for a coffee break..etc...(then I put I pay).
Cookies in a jar (google it for different ideas...usually can print the instructions as well) decorate the jar to your likings.
You can make a variety of sweets and gift wrap them. eg. chocolate fudge, toffee brittle, nut crunch, apricot balls,
Ask all your friends for their favorite receipe..and print them out..and make a cook book. Then give them out. Or do this with your family. Cheap and lasts a life time.
Look at the frugal sites (google it) ...great ideas.
I love making plates...with homemade goods on them. Find cute plates (yard sales, etc...that look new...why buy new..when you can recycle good quality stuff for cheap... write on them: "The sweetest memories are made of good friends, good food, and a little slice of time to be together."
I like putting baked goods in gift baskets also..that way people can reuse the baskets..
also...instead of wrapping paper..use a cloth napkin or dishtowel to wrap it in..and then use a nice piece of ribbon for a bow and to hold it together...then save the landfill that way..no trash.
make hand made cards.
be creative...look on the web for idea. or thru catalogs
I was just wondering how many christmas presents you get for each child, spouse, and family members? My mother was always a big christmas person. We each got about 15 - 20 gifts (5 kids). But she used christams to make up for some of the other crap she did. So me and hubby often disagree on how many presents I buy for the kids. So I was just looking to see what people do out there. Any feedback would be appreciated.
My dear mother was like that too, only difference is she wasn't making up for crap she did. I'm sorry you had that as a child. They may have been little gifts but she made sure she wrapped each one separately. I'm in the same boat as my husband is like yours. His family didn't do that but you tend to follow the traditions you were brought up with. Our children (blended family) are adults and there are grandchildren, but I still buy more than one gift for each. Isn't that what we, as parents, are supposed to do? What kid, no matter their age, wants to sit and open one gift. That sounds so commercial, but I know they really appreciate them and I'm a giver and the more I can give, even if they're small gifts, the happier that makes me when I see their faces. I say, what's ever in your budget, go for it. My son, for instance, tells me if he wants one certain big gift or more smaller ones.

Christmas is usually an ideal time to give presents to the guys in your life. Buying Christmas presents for men can be quite challenging. This is especially so if the man has not given any hints on the present he would like.
Buying X-mas gifts can sometimes be a tedious and expensive affair because of all the jostling and skyrocketing of prices during Xmas. It may also cause some stress especially when one is confused about what to buy. Most of the good items usually go out of stock as the season progresses. It would be advisable to start shopping early to avoid last minute rush.
Selecting a X-mas present for a man requires one to be patient and imaginative. These presents vary depending on your relationship with the guy. It could be a boyfriend, husband, dad or colleague. Start by making a list of the guys you want to give presents to. Then, think of their likes, dislikes and hobbies.
