Best thing is to get to make it known what you do. By small town shows and county fairs. Also make friends with a small town shop owner who might let you sell them at their shop. By sister in law does scrap-booking and she sells her stuff at a local drug store. So be daring and try asking someone if they are willing to help.

I can't afford to buy all my friends Christmas gifts. I really can only afford three gifts, one for my parents, one for my grandparents, and one for my two best friends. (My friends are sisters)
I want to paint cards and give them as gifts.
I want opinions. If you know that one of your friends is on a very strict budget will you be disappointed if you don't receive a gift, but instead a hand painted card? I am an abstract artist and my work is adequate. It's good enough to design a few cards for friends, I hope, and I pour my soul into my creations. But my question is, is it chincy? Should I figure out a way to budget real gifts? Please help!
I would love to receive a handmade gift like that from a friend, strict budget or not. Go for it, I think it's a very nice idea. :)
are there any artists or workshops that can make hand made christmas cards in east london?
Why not make your own loads of programs available that make it very easy and much cheaper than buying them.
I am looking to change careers. I have a BFA in photography and have taken graphic design classes. I have invested personal time in learning the programs used in graphic design studios and production, I still have a lot to learn though, to be considered proficient in these programs, I feel. I have designed my own Christmas cards and card designs for the last 18 years as well. I am trying to get an interview ( I am willing to start at the bottom!!) with a company for a layout artist position. I applied but I know my work expereince isn't what they're looking for (i've worked with special needs kids for 9 years), but I know I could do this job. What do I have to do to make myself look more qualified, short of lying??? I have personal experience and a great interest in graphics and would like to get this layout artist job as a kicking off point. How can you get the experience needed for a job if no one will give you a job to begin with?? What can I do at a personal level??
Thanks,
~Lisa
You can probably get an internship or an entry level position with little to no experience (it's good you're willing to start at the bottom). But honestly, I don't think you will get the opportunity to be even a bottom-dweller until you have at least an associate degree in graphic design.
Graphic design is much like your current field of photography, in the way that it's a complex blend of creative talent and technical execution. But please recognize that it requires a completely different skill set that your prior education and experience has not prepared you for.
The best piece of advice I can offer you is to look into schools near you that offer graphic design degrees. With a BFA under your belt, it's likely some of that (and maybe the graphics classes you've taken on your own) will transfer over and fast-forward you toward graduation. Then you'll be ready to applying for entry-level graphic design work.

Susan Alison has a unique and wonderfully quirky sense of humor. She captures her subjects with love and understanding. I smile every time I see her work, especially when I see what she's written in the Artist Notes section under the card (viewable on the web site by clicking on a card below).
Susan has cards for many occasions; I'm just showing a few below. To see more of her work, click on one of the cards below and then click her name underneath the card. It will be well worth your time!
