Im going to be sending out invitations for my sons birthday sometime this week(for march 20) would it be okay if I put that Noah needs clothes size 12-24 months, toys, books or list places they could purchase gift cards. Or is that rude?
I only add this because a lot of people have asked me what he needs, and there are some family that are coming that have not met him yet and dont know that hes a big boy
It depends on the way you word it, and how you put it out there. And it depends on the family I suppose. Honestly, I always felt like it was rude to leave people hanging on what you're child is into, what they need, and just leave them wandering in a store looking for things. I mean, that's what a registry is, the only problem with a registry is that it's done in one particular store and it's a problem for people to find it and look at it easily. After having to do shopping for my mom for the last 10+ years (as in, helping her find presents for people...) I honestly love the people who include a list of what their child is into, what they need, the size of clothes they want, etc. It makes it very easy to shop for them, and to me that's polite (making it easy for others.)
And then you have other issues. Like, Elmo and Barbie are not welcome in our house, so someone buying my daughter either of those would find their present is gone in a couple of weeks. I also HATE gift cards (unless you believe the people are drug-heads who would use money for drugs, there's no excuse for them.) They restrict your shopping, can have fees or expiration dates, and either you have to spend more than what's on the card or lose the money left behind if you don't hit that $20 exactly (impossible to do...) and they also dictate what you use the money for (let's say I want my daughter to save money, or to donate a certain amount... lesson averted unless I buy it from her.) so I hate when people give those to children or adults.
With my daughter, I tried to make it clear to people that any presents are optional, and that the list was a "wish list" we made to give people ideas ONLY. Most folks completely ignored it and got whatever they thought she'd like, and that was fine. My Father In Law, family who bought her clothes, and my parents used the list like a life-preserver. Especially FIL who went shopping at the last moment and gave himself a budget and went "Hey, I can do this, and this and that..." and got a bunch of things that weren't on the list but fit with the likes she had. When you have family who don't really know your child but want to celebrate the birthday, it really helps them to have something to shop with.
Maybe it was rude by some folks' standards. The fact is, it was written with the intent of making it easier for THEM, not to get the things on the list, and that means that it was done politely.
Add: And again... "you'll get lots of calls asking..." We didn't get one. Not her first year. Not her baby shower. Not any Christmas. This year I made a 'wish list' and made sure it was clear that the presents were optional and just an idea list to be honest. People didn't feel like they were roped in to follow that list (she got all sorts of things), and it was easier for others to shop for her.
It's a matter of your family. If you think they will call and ask, then there's no point in the list. If you think they will NOT call and ask, then there's a point to it.

Perfect supplies for a young child's birthday party or a baby shower
I am in my 8th month of pregnancy now so my grandmother decided to throw me a baby shower. Well, the only day available is on her 66th birthday. Many of our family and friends who we don't see very often are going to be there, so my aunt and I decided to make it a surprise birthday party for her as well as a baby shower for me. How should I word the insert into the baby shower invitations????????
Just slip a little note into each invitation that says something like "Shh! Don't tell Nana, but we also want to help her celebrate her 66th Birthday during the celebration welcoming the new baby. Remember, it's a surprise!" You might also have everyone bring one flower and you can make her a beautiful bouquet that she can take home.
My daughter is having a baby doll party for her 5th birthday. I have been spending too much time looking for baby doll birthday invitations. Have you happend to see any free printable invite. web sites with that?
