1st birthday?

My son will be 1 in October.( yes I know its early) but I am already thinking about his 1st birthday. I need some suggestions on party favorites. The girls ages are 1-9 and the boys 1-9. Also, any suggestions on websites that have cute decorations for a 1st birthday.

In my experience (4 1st birthday parties) it isn't worth it to go all out. Most infants can't handle all of the excitement and either get crabby after a while from all of the attention and stress it causes them or they tend to pass out before you even get to the presents. Just have people over and plan on a short party. Enough to socialize a little, eat cake, and open presents. Save the big parties for when they are older and can enjoy them more. But that doesn't mean you have to skimp on the decorations. Just don't spend a lot of money on it. Instead, buy something for the bithday boy. We usually set aside $200 for the party-decorations, games and favors. And anything that we don't spend out of that gets added to the money that is set aside for presents. We usually spend $50-75 on gifts. Any extra money gets invested into a savings bond for the child. Good luck and have fun.

I have a 1st birthday party to go to. I know there will be a book where I have to write down something for the baby to look at when she turns 21. I am stuck. Everything I try to write from the heart ends up sounding ridiculous. I'd appreciate any suggestions that I could tweak to express my wishes and hopes for the little girl. Thanks!

depending on how close to the family you are,,,you could write and tell the baby how she was born into a great family that she will love and have a great life with. Or say how much she looks like her beautiful mom,,,or how she has her daddy wrapped around her finger,,and that she is the love of her mommy and daddys life,,that she makes them so happy..

What are some good ideas for a boy's 1st birthday?

For my son we're doing trains for his first birthday. I used celebrate express and trainparty.com for themed supplies.
I'm doing train shaped cupcakes for the cake and will make the "track" from licorice lacing and a Thomas candle for the engine.

We're not planning entertainment and we're keeping it pretty simple. Grandparents/Aunts and Uncles that can make it. I'll do a few birthday themed balloons on his highchair and some colorful plates. Other than that it's burgers on the grill, cake and a few presents. We're also keeping it short from 11-1 (over lunch time) so that it doesn't interfere with nap.

If you don't like the train theme some other good ones:

Construction- Walmart has small plastic vehicles that are Made in the USA for around $3 each that would be cute centerpieces on the table. A colorful table cover, a cake, few balloons and your set. If you want party favors you could get small matchbox size construction vehicles, gorrilla glue them to a wood block (craft store) that you stain first and then with a sharpie put the date, your child's name .

Circus- You could do primary colors for the table setting and balloons. The cake just do in fun primary colors with a clown candle. Party favors would be easy for this one. You could get felt and make miniature clown hats as napkin rings and get some crazy striped, polka dotted and checkered fabric and cut into 12x12 size to use as napkins. Makes a nice keepsake for guests.

Cowboy - red table cloth, use red and blue bandanas for the napkins and those play sherrifs badges as the napkin ring.
Red white and blue balloons. Cake- super easy. Get a plain frosted 9x13 and put a small cowboy hat on top. Party favors-they can keep the bandana and badge OR you could give out horshoes (cut from flat 1/2 inch thick floral foam and paint with copper acryllic paint) and glue to a plain wooden frame. Put your child's photo in each.

Dinosaurs- just do a 9x13 cake and put some plastic play dinos on top and HAPPY BIRTHDAY. You could use a green table cover and black or yellow plates/cups/napkins. Again, some balloons in orange, yellow, black, white, blue and for party favors you could do a cellophane bag with a dinosaur in each and dino shaped magnet (check craft stores in the wood area for pre painted ones to save time. You may have to buy magnets to stick on the back of each but they are really cheap to get). Use a sharpie to put along the tail or bottom your son's name and 1st Birthday.

Jungle- green table cover with yellow, orange place settings and table ware. Balloons in yellow, orange, green, white. Put some large plastic jungle animals (check walmart or dollar stores for them) like elephant, tiger, lion, monkeys, etc.. around the table. For the cake do a round cake with a paper palm tree on top and elephant near the palm tree (smaller plastic one). Party favors are easy with this theme. Get inexpensive photo frames and use jungle animal scrapbooking stick on's on the bottom each. On the top you could put your child's name and frame a photo to give each guest.

Tugboat party- use small plastic boats to float in a bowl you color blue for the water. The cake would be easy enough in round or 9x13 by putting a toy boat or two on top with the words Happy Birthday. A bakery could probably do it for you.
Table scape would be simple and fun. Use a pale blue table cover with deeper blue place settings in plates and napkins etc.. Balloons in pale blue, deep blue, white and yellow. Party favors? Simple! Get smaller boats about 3-4 inch size and use hot glue or gorilla glue to mount to a wood piece (craft stores) about 5 inches square. Stain or paint the wood first on top. Put your child's name on the side of the mounted boat and on the wood piece put the date or "first birthday". A few starfish or sand dollars (Oriental Trading or craft store) scattered around the table make a nice touch.

You could also do Race Cars, Firetrucks, Dogs, "Little Prince" party, a generic "I'm One" party, Farm theme.

What would be a great 1st birthday gift to a baby girl from Grandparents?

My in-laws are asking me what gifts they should buy for my baby girl's 1st birthday. Any suggestions?

Is there anything you NEED for the baby that you can't afford to get? Or something that you plan to get in the near future for her? If you are okay finacially, then open a savings account for her. Let them know that maybe an outfit and a small deposit into the savings account would be perfect.
