Custom Birth Announcement

Hi all!
I'm pretty creative, and I have found that I can make some pretty cute (yet simple) custom birth, wedding, bridal/baby shower announcements with Excel...
I want to step it up a bit. I want to be able to make something that looks like it was bought at a high end stationary boutique...
What computer program would I buy to do this?

Just build a template for the size of your paper.

Use graphics easily found all over the web.

Or just pick up a cheap cd that you see all over the place for like 9.99 15000 Graphics etc. You see them all the time in closeout bins and the end of checkout lines of computer stores and office superstores.

Custom made birth announcements that are one of a kind, how do i go about starting my own company

That would probably fall in the Greeting Card catagory. Check out what would be needed to do that.
I'm sure it would include the appropriate printing materials and equipment, as well as distribution information. It is a very niche market, but if you work hard at it, you could probably make a go of it.

I also have to ask....have you considered a custom diaper cake for your celebration? They make great centerpieces/decorations and can double as the gift to the new parents? I would like to start a business making custom invitations, birth announcements, etc. but have no idea where to start. Does anybody give me the what my first step would be. Ebay has been mentioned but I'm not familiar with that either. Do I just post my completed work for a price.

Get a business number there for $2 and foward calls to your personal phone. You can set it up so the number on the caller id is the business phone number. Then you will be able tell if its a customer calling. Then set it up so the voicemail that comes with the number picks up before your personal voicemail does. Then customize the time when the phone should go strait to voicemail. Now you have a business number for $2 and a personal number all on one phone, easy to manage, and saves you money. No need to overpay for another phone or a business line.

I want to sell custom designed birth announcements, invitations, business cards, things like that. But I just have no idea how to get started and it's so overwhelming. Someone told me to start off by selling through an Ebay store rather than starting my own website. Then if I do well through Ebay, move on to having my own site.
Anyone out there have any advice or tips for me?? Thanks!

The first thing is to make sure it will be profitable.

Do your break even analysis.

Find out EXACTLY what it will cost to do business via eBay, and using PayPal.

You might be disappointed, but you must know in advance.
