Birth Announcement msg as SMS?

Does anyone have good ideas of SMS messages to be sent to friends once our baby is born? I'm looking for something other than the ordinary ("We're proud to announce.."), perhaps some sweet poem? So far I haven't found any good ones on the net..

My parents named me _______
Without asking my advice
I think they’re going to keep me
For they think I’m pretty nice.
I was born ___________
And I don’t do much but doze
I weighed just _________
That’s without my clothes.

There is a whole new way to celebrate! Congratulations-a new baby has filled your life with joy. Have fun! And let the world share the proudest ...

Were birth announcements published in the newspapers during the early-1900s?

I have a copy of a marriage record that took place in Manhattan, NY on May 10, 1934 and it lists (the groom) Bernard Olson, who was born in Cleveland, Ohio to an Anthony Olson and Mary (Lody) Olson and I can not seem to find any information on him, such as his date of birth, date of death or any middle name.

What is the easiest way to search for Indexed or Public Records without having to search for websites that have Discussion or Message Boards? In the early-1900s, were birth announcements published in communities such as Cleveland, Ohio since the population wasn't as vast as it is today?

Anyone?
Thanks.

Maybe and maybe not. It depends on the town and location. In the late 19th and early 20th Centuries, I've found many newspaper articles that talked about the birth of local children, as well as dinner parties/wedding receptions/etc. that describe who was there and how they dressed. Also included in the local newspapers would be military service descriptions of the young men who were serving in the armed forces, and many other fun and interesting events.

It depends on the location and the importance of the people. Big city newspapers become highly problematic, because individuals in a big city become very, very small in terms of newsworthiness, and so much was published in big city newspapers that they're difficult to index.

Keep plowing away, anyhow, and best of luck to you.

What should I paint to symbolize the birth of my daughter?

I tried posting this yesterday, but got no responses. I figured I'd give it another go. I personally think symbology is really interesting; I just want some feedback.

When my son was born, I painted birth announcements bearing the symbol of Kokopelli, a symbol of fertility, birth and lightheartedness. I'm going to give birth to a baby girl in April and would like to paint birth announcements again. I'm having trouble with what symbol I'd like to be the focal point. I've been thinking a flower of some sort, to be more feminine. I've looked online for ideas, but haven't come up with much. I've thought of a lotus, but I'm getting mixed messages about the meanings for the different colors. I don't know that any of them will translate very well to "birth". I'm open to any suggestions, even nontradional ones. Thank you!
It doesn't have to symoblize 'birth' persay, but I'd like to have it have something to do with that or fertility, or femininity, etc. For instance, I know cherry blossoms in the Chinese culture can symbolize femininity.
A Calla Lilly, while beautiful and probably having other meanings, to me is a funeral flower.
To He calls me Mommy- You gave a very in depth answer, but I read it when you posted it for someone else looking for something to get tattooed on them. I'm really looking for a simple image to paint as I will paint probably 20-30 of them.
Thank you for the link to the fertility goddesses! I will check them out more in depth to see if I can come up with a simple symbol. I'll let you know.

How about a painting of one of the goddesses of fertility?

I also really like the lotus idea.

Can hubby leave army basic training to see birth of son?

My husband just recently joined the army, and is now in army basic training in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He's been there for about 11 days now... but the problem is, I'm pregnant and less than a month away from my due date, and he'll still be in basic training by the time I have my son. The recruiters told me that if I called the Red Cross, they could send a message and could get my husband out of basic for a couple of days to come home and see his son, but the Red Cross said they'll only send a labor announcement if he was overseas. Has anyone had a situation like this or know anyone who was able to come home from bootcamp to see the birth of their child?

Welcome to the service. Like life in general, it is what *you* make of it.

Recruiters are not the experts on what can be done. Unfortunately, there are a number of recruiters that will say anything to get someone to sign up.

Here is what you do. Go to the base's website. The address shoudl end in .mil. So it shodl be something like www.Fortwhatever.army.mil. K?

Look around that site for things like family info, conact us or best bet, the Ombudsman. Call any of those numbers and they'll put you on the right track.

You need to get smart on being an Army wife. There are a lot of benefits that you and he are entitled to but if he's in Basic, he won't have a lot of time to find out about them. As an example, my children were both born on bases at Navy hospitals and I didn't even receive a bill from the hospital. Find out about the Army Relief Society, get smart on the pay scales and how he gets paid, find out about the post exchange (the base's store). SOMEWHERE, probably on that website, there is a"Welcome to the Army" class for new spouses. Take it.

Finally, remember this. SPouses of those that serve are in a class by themselves. Arm WIves, just like Navy wives, Marines wives and Air Force wives, can do anything. They're as tough as nails!

Can hubby return from boot camp to see son's birth?

My husband just recently joined the army, and is now in army basic training in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Sorry, no clue.
Posting this in "Women's health" is perhaps not the best bet.
Hope you find your answer, good luck!
