Birth Announcement Gifts

Don't even think about suggesting it. Education is your responsibility, not others'. What makes you think they must give you gifts with birth announcement?

I am putting together my birth announcements early and i was just curious, when you send them, do people typically send gifts or money back to you?

Just a few. I found with my child that we received our gifts at our baby shower, and again for her Christening the a month after she was born. But the announcement itself was more to share her specifics (weight, height, date, etc.) and her beautiful face. I did get quite a few phone calls from them though...may be welcome (or not...if baby is finally sleeping!). Congrats!

I think it is tacky to not send a birth announcement to someone that was invited and gave a gift at a baby shower. My mom doesn't think it is necessary because none of her friends kid's have sent birth announcements even though she has been invtited to their showers.

I have been to about 8 or 9 baby showers and never have received one-- I thought that tradition had been pretty much dried out? Maybe thats just around here (in Virginia)...

My girlfriends birthday is coming up in October. I already have some gifts for her like jewelry and clothes but I want to get her something out of the ordinary that no one has ever given her before. I had the idea of getting her a copy of her birth announcement and framing it for her but I'm not sure how to go about getting one. If anyone knows how if there is a website or phone number to do this I would really appreciate the help. Thanks.

It all depends on if one was even made. While pretty common by today's standards it was not so much 40 yrs ago. If one was made and done so in a local paper or publication you have a couple options. Small towns will often have some sort of local historian who can point you to or help you with your search. Most Universities/Colleges will also keep old newspapers and publications like this on micro film or micro fiche which you can search yourself and print a copy. If the paper it was in is large enough it will also have its own copies on record which can be obtained from the paper usually for a nominal fee. Hope this helps.

100% of our family lives in other states and we would like to announce our birth. We know some family will buy gifts for the newborn- but we only need a few basic things being our second child. What do u all think?
just a side note: I am not having a baby shower since we are pretty new to our area

I put little cards in mine of where i was registered because a lot of my family doesn't live where we do and for others to know where i was registered so i think its appropriate..Good Luck =]]
