I am planning to start an invitation and birth announcements business. I am trying to find a software that specialize in invitations, birth announcements, and holiday photo cards and photo note cards. I am having a hard time in to find this kind of software. Can someone please help.
To find exclusive software, you will have to write it yourself (see definition of exclusive).
I would use Adobe Illustrator or InDesign. Why? Because the people that are hiring me to do the printing for them are also hiring me to come up with a design for them. If you hit a block, grab a template to become reinspired. Pick up a bunch of different fonts. And you'll be set.

I am looking for all suggestions on how to get started on my own at home business designing birth announcements, invitations, business cards, etc. How do I start to advertise the business? What are the first steps to get up and going? Would you suggest outsourcing the printing and if so do you have any good online website suggestions to outsource to?
Go to http://www.score.org/index.html and in the upper left hand corner, enter your zip code. On the next screen, you will get information in the nearest SCORE chapter. Call them and arrange for a free meeting with a SCORE counselor to discuss starting your design business.
SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
SCORE has 389 chapters in locations throughout the United States and its territories, with 10,500 volunteers nationwide. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate time and expertise as business counselors.
I want to start a home business designing and printing birth announcements and invitations. Can anyone share some light as to how do I get started? I don't need help with the design aspect. I want to know if I should invest in buying high quality printers or outsource my printing.
It depends on the amount of money you want to invest right from the beginning. You should compare prices of printer vs. outsourcing. If it is going to be more beneficial to purchase a printer, then that is what I suggest. Remeber, you can depreciate the printer and use it as a deduction on your taxes.
If you purchase a printer you would be able to keep your customer's costs down because you won't be paying a fee to the printing company.
Check with your state department of revenue to see what the requirements are for starting a business. You may be required to collect and report sales tax, etc.
I need unique name suggestions for a small birth announcement (also birthday invitations, cards, etc) business. Main focus is on birth announcements but other printed items offered as well as described above. I want something memorable and unique. Any suggestions?

Personalised Mother's Day cards from Fluppet
This year why not send your mum a personalised Mother’s Day card? Perhaps using a photo from when she was a girl. Or as a new mum holding you for the first time? The cards can be personalised using stock images or your own photographs or drawings. You design and order cards online that are then sent through Royal Mail direct from the printers. Cards can even incorporate your own handwriting.
Through Fluppet.com you can upload your own photos or pictures, then customise the text on the card’s front and inside with your own choice of type font to suit your individual style and personality.
Ask a PWG Wedding Pro: Confetti Specialty Invitations (Atlanta ...
Confetti takes great pride in creating unique invitations for each couple. As part of our process in designing custom invites, we spend a lot of time not only discovering the couples vision of their special day, but also knowing and learning what makes the couple unique themselves . . . from “their story” and their individual tastes and styles.

We also design custom handmade papers as well. We utilize fabrics such as silks, velvets, tulle or other textiles with interesting textures, and have a wide array of embellishments that make the invitation special. Recently we have added letter press capabilities for that elegant or vintage touch. I tell my brides to look for inspiration in any area of their world. Although we are able to “mimic” almost any pre-made invitation; the truly unique aspect of their invitations will come from their own individual inspirations. Look to nature for fresh and new color combination.
