I am doing a project that I have to create the front page of a newspaper for January 9 1994. I need to know key events and death and birth announcements. I'm having trouble finding any of this information.
go to this site Brainy history .com
I have a copy of a marriage record that took place in Manhattan, NY on May 10, 1934 and it lists (the groom) Bernard Olson, who was born in Cleveland, Ohio to an Anthony Olson and Mary (Lody) Olson and I can not seem to find any information on him, such as his date of birth, date of death or any middle name.
What is the easiest way to search for Indexed or Public Records without having to search for websites that have Discussion or Message Boards? In the early-1900s, were birth announcements published in communities such as Cleveland, Ohio since the population wasn't as vast as it is today?
Anyone?
Thanks.
Maybe and maybe not. It depends on the town and location. In the late 19th and early 20th Centuries, I've found many newspaper articles that talked about the birth of local children, as well as dinner parties/wedding receptions/etc. that describe who was there and how they dressed. Also included in the local newspapers would be military service descriptions of the young men who were serving in the armed forces, and many other fun and interesting events.
It depends on the location and the importance of the people. Big city newspapers become highly problematic, because individuals in a big city become very, very small in terms of newsworthiness, and so much was published in big city newspapers that they're difficult to index.
Keep plowing away, anyhow, and best of luck to you.
do you think (in the name of progress) it would improve if there was a category for us the ya community to post births marriages and deaths as well as bdays etc even lost and founs or adoption stories etc?
Yes, and a crossword, and a sudoku, and hang on, it's The Times!
Will Obama's Big Health Care Push Work?
What a charade, weren't the lab coats just the ticket to convince us this monstrous bill is just what we need?
Let's do a fact check, wasn't the bill supposed to control healthcare costs and cut the deficit/debt? However, the CBO expects my premiums to increase should the bill become law. the CBO also predicts the bill to cost more than the status-quo over the next decade.
In the face of a national debt swiftly approaching the ceiling of $14.3 trillion (the second ceiling in the past few months) and a well kept secret that the government's unfunded liabilities are actually some $60 to $70 trillion shouldn't someone be developing a crisis plan to resolve these issues?
Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter: So Why Lock Up the Birth ...
It seems that every week we hear of one more situation in which some politician or bureaucrat is trying to restrict access to public domain vital records. Everybody is trying to lock out everyone, including genealogists. Our right to access to public domain birth, marriage, and death information is being threatened constantly under the guise of "preventing identity theft."
Balderdash!
(That's as strong a word as I will use in this family-oriented publication.)
I am sure that the politicians love the limelight back home when they can brag that they have taken action to "prevent identity theft." Heck, nobody is in favor of identity theft, right?...
