I have recently joined a Baptist church. In the weekly flyer they requested that we make and decorate "spiritual birth announcements" and hang them up in our homes as a reminder of our baptism into Christ. Isn't that making an idol? I'm new at practicing Christianity, but I remember a scripture about God telling people not to make graven images for worship or to bow down to them. To bow down means to hold a special reverence for and not necessarily physically bending the knees because old folks simply can't bow down to an idol as easily as a young person, but would if they could.
The weekly pamphlet also mentioned taking a bowl of water and putting it on a table and twice a day making a water cross on someone's forehead in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Again as a reminder of the baptism. I can't find anything in the Bible that tells me that's okay to do. Again, sounds Babylonian in nature and not true Christianity. Why do I have to constantly be reminded that I'm baptised? I was there. I remember the whole experience. The Holy Spirit is the one who reminds me with his counseling and other duties he performs while he dwells in me.
This is how I understand what being a true Christian is. You read the word of God a lot and it goes from the mind and into the heart. The Holy Spirit, who dwells in Christians, prompts believers into action that honors God. There is no need for paper reminders or water crosses on the foreheads. When you love somebody, you don't need a piece of paper on the wall reminding you of them. By the way, I am NOT condoning living in sin without God's blessing or marriage ceremony.
I have contacted my church leaders concerning this and don't know what to expect. I'll either be told it's okay Christian behavior though not prescribed in the Bible or told if I don't feel comfortable doing it then I shouldn't. If I get either answer, I'm finding another Christian church.
I am beginning to get a glimpse of what causes the church (body of Christ) to fall away at the end times. The spiritual impurities such as idolatry blending in with the clean water of a pure faith dilutes their strength to hang on.
What say you?
I say it is not. If it gives you good feelings to put up such an announcement, do it.
I also think all the statues, rosarys, Saints, like St Francis in your garden are just fine. visual reminder to remember to always give thanks!

Ironic fact: I want to name my son Dawson Scott Riley. There is a Dawson and William's middle names and Riley and Scott.

I think that it is great to see names like Rose being used in the first name slot and it's also wonderful to see good, classic names being used in our "Yunique" generation.
Joey Styles Breaks WWE Tradition, Posts Powerful Blog On End of ECW
In what could only be described as a rather shocking blog posted on WWE Universe , the WWE Website guru Joey Styles discussed his feelings about the end of Extreme Championship Wrestling, and heaped heavy praise on noted creative genius Paul Heyman. That had to be a risky move in the poltically charge World Wrestling Entertainment environment.
In his blog entitled ECW IS DEAD, LONG LIVE ECW , Styles opens up with the statement, I don't blog regularly because I prefer to keep my opinions within WWE. However, as the end of ECW is upon us and I am more passionate about the Original ECW than anything else I ever have been involved in and possibly anything I will ever will be involved in, I thought I would share my feelings on the end of ECW.

I’m tired of people saying Obama has to prove he is a citizen. He has used the only evidence anyone ever needs–a certified copy of his birth certificate–to prove his Hawaiian birth. Now it should be up to the doubters to prove that it is false.

First of all, on the Honolulu newspaper, BO’s mom or grandmother could have added it to the birth announcements, it was legal for people other than the hospitals to post them.
On the certification by the HI authorities who said “I have seen BO’s Hawaiian birth certificate,” this authority did NOT say he saw Obama’s vault copy of the long form that included the signature of the attending Honolulu hospital physician. To be official in Hawaii, the form must include the physician signature. The certificate BO submitted is a generic issue that is written for any person who could use an alternate birth document, such as a parents passport or birth certificate, per some “heresay” Act put in place in Hawaii in 1911.. So we still don’t have proof of BO’s birth in hawaii.
